About Me
Hola! I’m Marcy Yu, a digital nomad from Costa Rica with a vibrant blend of Latin and Asian heritage (Taiwanese dad and Costa Rican mom)—and no, I don’t speak Mandarin! After eight years as the Marketing & Communications Director for Ralph Lauren Latin America, I left my job to travel the world and share my adventures on my blog, marcyyu.com. I’ve been exploring the globe for seven years now, and I’m about to embark on a 3-4 month journey through Europe—my first visit in three years and my first European summer!
I’m passionate about fitness, including pilates, yoga, and hiking, which keep me grounded. I’m friendly, clean, easygoing, and loyal, always eager to learn more. While I highly value my privacy and usually prefer my own accommodation, I’m open to Couchsurfing for the cultural exchange and deeper understanding of the places I visit. However, I ONLY accept requests that offer a private room. Please note, I will only consider and respond to offers that can provide a private room. I’m here to forge genuine connections, NOT hookups. If you’re curious about my nomadic lifestyle and professional endeavors, follow my journey on Instagram @marcy_yu.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I first learned about Couchsurfing from a close friend in the UK, who rave all about it as an incredible way to connect with locals and make global friends. While I was initially skeptical—I’ve always enjoyed staying in nice hotels and could easily afford my accommodations - I decided to give it a try. What I discovered was eye-opening.
While I still love a good hotel stay, Couchsurfing offers something that no hotel can: a chance to experience a destination through the eyes of a local. It’s a unique way to uncover hidden gems, learn about the culture, and get invaluable travel tips. I’ve found it fascinating to hear locals share stories about their countries, especially when they reveal how some aspects of their culture are actually crafted for tourists.
Through Couchsurfing, I’ve met countless amazing people, many of whom have become close friends. The generosity and kindness I’ve encountered from my hosts have far exceeded my expectations. Once my travels slow down, I’m really looking forward to hosting other Couchsurfing members and offering the same incredible hospitality that I’ve been lucky enough to receive.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I climbed the highest mountain in Africa: Kilimanjaro and also the highest in North Africa: Toubkal. My first solo trip was Rwanda where I saw the gorillas and it was such an incredible experience.
What I Can Share with Hosts
A new friend who’s Costa Rican, Panamanian, Taiwanese, and has a UK phone number—quite the unique combination, right? If you decide to host me, I’d love to offer my loyal friendship and connect through fun, deep conversations. As a thank you to my hosts, I always enjoy treating them to a night out for drinks or nice dinner, sharing fun & wild travel stories. And if our schedules don’t align this time, I still hope our paths cross someday!
