关于我

Hello!

My name is Marde, I originally hail from the USA's beautiful Pacific Northwest, but lived in Australia from ages 18–25.

Daniel, my husband, was born in Melbourne VIC. When we're not letting out our pad and travelling around the world, we either live in Northern NSW, near Byron Bay, or in the city of Seattle.

Together my husband and I run a web development business, the flexibility of our work allows us to travel often. Travelling is not only a shared passion of ours, it is a necessity as we have friends and family scattered across the globe.

When I'm not managing the marketing & design projects for our clients, I'm working on my next novel.

Currently, my husband and I are living in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in Vietnam. Prior to that we stayed in Melbourne AU visiting his family for three months, and before that we lived in our home in Seattle for about a year.

2018 is the 'year of travel' for us. We're headed back to Melbourne from Vietnam, then on to the USA, with flights booked to travel France, Italy, and Greece– before returning to Vietnam.

** What it's like to live with me (and my husband): **
• We like to spend the whole day out and about. We are lovers of riding bikes, walking, and using public transport.

• Typically we like to wake up around 6:30am - 7am, wash up, and head out the door for a day of adventuring or work.

• We are not 'party people', but we do love to have a couple of drinks and good food.

• Ideally we like to be in bed between 9:30pm - 11pm

• We understand how important sleep is to our hosts! We don't want to keep you up at night or wake you up in the morning unintentionally, so please let us know what your personal schedule is like.

• We believe in respecting a hosts space, that means washing our own dishes as soon as we dirty them, keeping our sleeping space tidy, and making sure we do not dirty the bathroom. We treat your home as we would treat our own!

• We do not travel with sleeping bags, so please let us know if we need to bring our own bedding / towels. I'm MORE than happy to do laundry and clean anything that you are kind enough to let us use during our stay.

• We do not smoke or do drugs.

• My husband is a very good cook across all kinds of cuisine. We LOVE learning more about cooking and enjoy cooking with others.

• We are pet friendly, but do not travel with a pet ourselves.

• If you would like to have a glass of wine, beer, or cocktail with us– we'd love that! However if you do not drink, that is something we respect wholeheartedly.

• We LGBT friendly, love is love!

I can't wait to meet you!

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

When we travel, my husband and I look for the 'local' experience. We love staying in a city long enough to get to know its nuances, and become 'regulars' at our favourite bar or restaurant.

It's important to us to get to know local culture and customs, and we feel that couchsurfing is one of the best ways to immerse ourselves in a location.

We are both very personable and friendly people, but as we are working as we are traveling– we also respect boundaries and space. We're always looking for the next cafe to set up shop in during the day, and believe in the importance of respecting a host's home.

Ideally, we love to get to know our hosts. Food and wine (and cooking!) is something we love to share with people, and if you have the time to share your favourite 'spots' with us in the city we would love to join you. However we are flexible, and if you have limited time to explore together– that's fine too!

I've published one novel, with my second novel on track to be published early 2018. I also work with a team in San Francisco to publish stories on the popular digital 'interactive storytelling' app, Episode Interactive.

教,学,和分享

Learn:
French is a language I've been struggling to learn for some time now. I can read it with a fair amount of understanding, but speaking, listening, and writing are difficult for me. If you're fluent and wouldn't mind teaching me a few of the basics, I would be forever grateful!
On the flip side, if you would like to practice your english with someone, I would be more than happy to oblige!

Cooking and everything that goes with it is a passion for me and my husband. In particular, he is very good at whipping up a fun homemade meal out of whatever is laying around. Me? I'm more of a baker, but I do love to cook! If you love to cook and would like to share your expertise with us, we would be thrilled!

Teach:
I'm quite experienced with wordpress websites, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, film-making, and design theory. If anyone is interested in a few lessons or even just needs a hand with fixing something on their computer, I'm more than happy to help.

I also write fantasy novels for all ages :) If you've thought about starting to write yourself, I'd love to help you with the basics on how to write a novel!

Share:
Our favourite things to share are our love of jazz, eating, and drinking. Sometimes, all three at the same time!

我可以与沙发主分享些什么

I can share my experiences and my thoughts. I can also share my ability to actively listen to what you have to say. It may sound a bit dorky, but I love listening to others and having an enriching and engaging conversation. We all come from such varied and rich backgrounds, every time I have a new conversation with someone I appreciate how much it adds to my life!

My husband and I have an apartment in both Seattle WA and Northern NSW Australia. When we're finally 'home' again after our travels abroad, any new friends we make are more than welcome to come stay with us anytime!
