About Me

Hi! My name's Marek, I'm 37 years old. I live and work in Wrocław. I have a 10-year-old son named Jerzy and 5-year-old daughter, Ida.

I'm a programmer (backend developer) and work for an e-commerce company. I love late night conversations over a glass of beer or whisky, discussing all kinds of topics. I also like modern architecture, indie video games, many kinds of music (especially with dark undertones), books and board games. Recently I picked up new hobbies: vintage computer collecting and electronics, so there's that too. And flight simulation. I'm a nerd, but sociable :-)

My son was born in late 2014, so he's no longer a toddler, likes maths, puzzles, games and in general is very sociable. My daughter was born in 2019, and she's as cute as it gets, especially when guests are around (she only haunts me when there are no witnesses). That being said, when I host you, you'll probably not meet the kids (they'll be staying with their mum at those times), but they might be around sometimes. As a traveller, I won't be taking them with me.

I also used to have a fat cat, named Stefa. Unfortunately, she escaped one day, so she's no longer a member of the family.

My hometown, Wrocław, is a really fantastic city that I truly love, so as your host, I'll surely want to take you to some amazing places and tell various stories about them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really love travels and meeting people. I am very excited about CS, both hosting and traveling. So both as a host and traveller, I'd really appreciate the possibility of spending some time with our guests/hosts, talking with them about all kinds of stuff, showing them around, if I can, and in general having a good time.

Music, Movies, and Books

Regarding books, I like various authors, incl. Vonnegut, Tolkien, Strugacki brothers, Bulhakov, Joseph Heller, and others.

I listen to metal, gothic, dark folk, dark electronic, all kinds of rock, various indie stuff, ethno-jazz, classical, but I also like stuff from other genres. A few of my favorite bands (in random order): Igorrr, System of a Down, Paradise Lost, Tiamat, Metallica, Nirvana, Rammstein, Pearl Jam, Black Sabbath, Dimmiu Borgir, Summoning, Samael, Satyricon, Burzum, Behemoth, My Dying Bride, Anathema, Boards of Canada, Ulver, The Black Keys, The White Stripes, King Dude, Audioslave, Blutharsch, The Prodigy, The Doors, Rolling Stones, Dead Can Dance, Kult, Maanam, Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa, Wardruna, Batushka, Nick Cave, Forndom, Led Zeppelin, Arcade Fire, Deus, John Lee Hooker, Bohren & Der Club of Gore...

As far as movies are concerned, I also have quite eclectic taste. In general, I like more off-ish cinema, but don't limit myself in any way. I have a special place in my heart for Scandinavian films, any weird stuff is always welcome too :-)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I designed and built a modular nixie-tube & VFD universal display which can communicate with many devices.

Teach, Learn, Share

As host, I can show you around my town (Wrocław) and tell you many stories about it. I really like architecture, history of the city and various trivia, so he I tell you a lot of stuff about the town.

I can cook a little bit too. I'm not a pro, but I probably won't poison you.

Also, if you need a crash course in programming, tinkering with electronics, or flying an airliner (in a simulator!), I can help - I like teaching people things :-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I may teach you some programming, electronics, or some English.

I can also share various stories from my journeys and life in general, and talk about all kinds of topics related to culture, geopolitics, popular science or whatever :-)
