I'm pretty low-maintenance, self-sufficient, non-smoking and drug-free. Social drinker but fine with not drinking. Omnivore but fine with not eating meat. Love cats, not crazy about dogs but small ones are ok. Like other small animals. Like kids (but don't plan to have my own, not that that matters). I'm an outgoing introvert: I like being social but also need down time. I try to be a nice person and treat everyone with compassion. Sometimes I fail (and then I have to work on having compassion for myself, which is much harder).

You might know me from a book I co-wrote with my sweetie Franklin Veaux, called More Than Two: A Practical Guide to Ethical Polyamory. We've been doing a lot of travelling and speaking associated with the book.

When I'm travelling alone, I like to meet people and have company. I would like to help open up the world a little bit more.

I learned about couchsurfing.org when I had a wonderful host in San Jose, CA, in 2006. She found me on Craigslist, not here--though this is where she does most of her hosting--so we didn't review each other. I've had a few couchsurfing hosts in California since then, and some friends of mine have had great experiences with it. Looking forward to both hosting and surfing more.

Right now I don't have space to host myself because of the people I share my own space with, but I am looking forward to changing that in the future.

I am constantly trying to improve myself physically, emotionally, and intellectually. My favorite thing in the whole world to do is dance (swing and ballet). I also love yoga. I have opened one museum, written a book and founded three businesses.

Books: Popular science, fantasy, magical realism (in Spanish), poetry, Russian novels. Movies: SciFi, fantasy, animation, comic book superheroes. Music: Mostly I am stuck in the late eighties, with goth, industrial, pop, and the stuff we used to call "alternative." I also love opera. I'm open to pretty much anything, but I generally dislike girl-and-guitar music and reggae.

A few years ago I spent two hours blindfolded in a room with 35 strangers, and it was one of the most profound and amazing experiences ever (and it was not remotely either creepy or sexual).

I can introduce you to the various polyamorous groups in the city, and I'm always happy to talk to people about polyamory and how it works in my own life. I can show you how to properly use and fine-tune your Facebook privacy settings. I can cook a meal that's better than what you'd find in most restaurants.
