About Me

I'm a friendly introvert with a very positive outlook on life. I love traveling, making music, spending lots of time in nature, and making the most of every situation. I'm pretty easy going and always interested in getting below the surface level when it comes to new places and experiences, deep conversations, getting creative, and learning about myself and my place in the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I sincerely believe in the value of experiences and moments over possessions. I've chosen to make a living doing what I love (singing, teaching, tossing pizza dough in the air), which means I'm not exactly rolling in money. But I don't want to let that stop me from seeing the world and all it has to offer. Broadening horizons, making new friends, immersing myself in new cultures and environments outside my bubble...you can't put a price on these. Especially when traveling solo, I'd prefer to interact with locals and learn as much as I can about the non-tourist version of a city or town. Saving money on lodging is obviously a perk as well, but it's all just part of the experience I'm looking for overall.

Interests

I've been singing most of my life, and I also play violin, guitar, and piano. I teach all of these instruments to children ages 5-13. I also make pizza to pay my bills, which I actually love. There's something meditative about tossing dough in the air. In my spare time I love to go hiking or just relax in a natural setting, read a good book or listen to a thought-provoking podcast. I am an avid but amateur photographer. I'm very interested in spirituality and enjoy meditating on a regular basis.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love singer-songwriter style, folk, and pop, mostly. But I'll listen to anything that isn't screamy death metal punk type stuff. I'm a huge fan of movies in all genres, especially dramas, documentaries, and I'm a sucker for a rom-com. And fantasy series like Lord of the Rings! My all-time favorite books are the His Dark Materials Series by Phillip Pullman, and the Ishmael books by Daniel Quinn. I read almost constantly, in many different genres. There will never be enough time in this life to read all the great books in the world!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent a few months living and working on a flower farm in the remote jungles of Hana, Maui. Swam with dolphins in the ocean and never wanted it to end. Traveling the country singing songs with different bands is also a consistently amazing thing I will never get used to.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm not a terrific cook, but I'm a great prep cook and dishwasher! Always happy to help chop veggies and clean up afterwards. I'll definitely provide musical entertainment or attempt to give lessons if you have an instrument lying around picking up dust! Definitely down for some great conversation or an adventure out on the town. I'm pretty quiet but I open up easily when asked. I can also happily keep to myself and stay out of your way if that's the kind of guest you're looking for! I'm pretty independent so I mainly just need a place to set down my head at the end of the day.
