About Me

ABOUT ME

I am an Estonian woman who likes meeting foreigners because they make the world feel closer and widen the perspective on life. In addition, when people are traveling they tend to have more time and a better mindset for connecting with others. Couchsurfing is a great way to take advantage of that :).

PHILOSOPHY

There are things that interest me more than others. For example, I believe biology and science in general is the best tool to explore and better understand the world. And since "nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution" (C. T. Dobzhansky) I like to approach philosophical questions from evolutionary point of view.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I sometimes host couchsurfers, haven't surfed myself yet.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had interesting and amusing time with all the couchsurfers I have hosted. They have been independent people with ideas and experiences worth sharing.

Interests

I am a knowledge-driven person always pleased to find out new facts and controversies. My world view is quite stereotypically sciency and progressive, I really enjoy keeping an eye on the positive developments in the most modern countries of the world.
I am a PhD student in the field of environmental studies, I'm in my final year and it's still pretty obscure what I will do next year. I’ve also had all kinds of odd jobs inbetween the academic pursuits including a New Year's Eve night shift at a hospital and milking a horse.
I love reading books and watching festival films and I’m also completely addicted to podcasts. I love nature and spending my vacations in sparsely populated areas of the world but recently got into long distance walking in civilization as well. I also enjoy emerging into other cultures a lot, I’ve briefly lived in different European countries besides Estonia and appreciate these experiences.
From sports I prefer yoga, Pilates, bouldering, slackline, swimming but my only regular sport right now is commuting long distances by bike.
I'm also interested in veganism, minimalism, personal car free life etc. that has to do with nature conservation and ethical life choices.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've spent 9 months in Iceland, this period was filled with exciting experiences. I'll never forget hikes between glaciers, crossing ice-cold rivers, northern lights, going to the sea with fishermen, chasing sheep, endless snow storms and local people who consider all this absolutely normal.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a slackline though I'm just a beginner. If the weather is good we could go to the park and try it out.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My thoughts on:

- what to do after I graduate: find a steady job or become a scientist

- ethics and cognitive dissonance

- cycling conditions in Tallinn

- the perfect world utopias

- history and evolution (I'm really into Amots Zahavi's handicap principle and often wonder about human motivation in that light.)

- whether there's any chance that in 50 years all the fertile land wouldn't be occupied by urban areas, agriculture and golf courses.
