CURRENT MISSION
Continuing to figure out how I can best contribute to the struggle
ABOUT ME
I am a 29 year old lady. I grew up in Maryland, lived in Philly for two years, D.C for five, and now I'm new to Chicago. I'm super into social justice and friendly. I identify as queer, which for me means I am into people of all genders.
Me encanta la cultura latina. Practico español constantemente, leendo libros, mirando telenovelas, cantando, y escuchando al rap español (Ana Tijoux, Mala Rodriguez, Akwid, Calle 13, Danay Suarez, Ariana Puello). Mi meta es tener fluidez y quizás ser interprete un día. Me gusta bailar bachata, salsa y cumbia. Bailemos!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To make instant friends; to find out that the people I just met are friends of friends of friends; to try a little non-generic slice of a new town; to meet beautiful people, to see different lives, to save money; to have memorable and sometimes wonderful experiences; to help build a culture of trust and safety; to support an alternative to apps like Airbnb that are watering down and deforming the ideals of the sharing economy; I couchsurfed a lot last summer and want to pay it forward!
Interests
outside my brain - cats, pretty colors, worker co-ops, the song My Pony by Ginuwine, 90s hiphop, cabins in the mountains, growing plants and herbs and flowers, playing soccer
inside my brain - I love to learn. I think a lot about education, what is empowerment?, social justice, psychology, free will, why do people make the decisions they do, emptiness/equanimity, languages. I'm a meditator, and also a musician (liesabout.bandcamp.com, flowerstaketurns.bandcamp.com)
Music, Movies, and Books
Joanna Newsom, Buke and Gase, Deerhoof, Radiohead, We Were Promised Jetpacks
I liked the book Punished by Rewards a lot.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Organize my coworkers to talk to our boss about unfair things at our job. Even though nothing changed, I'm proud I did something I was scared to do.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can organize your bookshelf by color, teach you languages or instruments, demonstrate the secrets of gluten-free baking, replace your bike tubes, sing you my Joanna Newsom impression, play your guitars and keyboards, cook you a meal; share my GoogleDoc of recipes with you; etc...
