ABOUT ME
After years of schooling and working in Western Massachusetts, I am taking a big leap of faith as I leave everything behind and move to Seattle, WA, where my boyfriend, Dan is in grad school. Starting January 3, 2011, my friend Nicole and I will take a month to traverse the country by car, taking the ultra-long route to Seattle - south along the east coast, then all the way west, then north along the west coast. When I get there, I will look for work and a new life. With my experience as a vegetable farmer and my training as a yoga teacher, Seattle should hold some promising opportunities.
…It's been 3 years since I wrote the above paragraph. I'm now settled in Seattle and slowly but surely falling in love with the place. I work 2 days a week at a rad herb shop and 3 days a week for a small gardening company. It's a great balance. I cook A LOT, and I'm even thinking of starting a small food business with my friend. I go to punk shows to see my husband's band and other bands of kids we know. I often visit the city's many parks and green spaces by bicycle and once in a while I escape to the mountains or the ocean by car. In addition to all that I am studying herbalism through the East West School of Planetary Herbology, which is mainly an online school.
PHILOSOPHY
My path in life is toward radical healing of self, others and planet. As an aspiring herbalist, I know that nature holds great wisdom and should be the model for innovative design.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I hope to have couchsurfing as a resource as I travel the country, something to fall back on when other plans fall through. I am traveling with very little money, but I also want to feel safe wherever I land. Perhaps meeting people through CS will give me a deeper understanding of the places I visit. Once I get settled in Seattle I plan to open up my couch to travelers to return the favor and offer this invaluable resource to low-budget travelers.
...My husband and I live in a cute little backyard cottage built in 1903 (originally built as servant's quarters). Unfortunately we don't have room for a couch or spare bed where we live, but I look forward to the day when I can host travelers, and I am glad to meet up for coffee or to stroll through the arboretum or whatever!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I am new to couchsurfing but my friend has had good experiences of visiting travelers staying with her.
