About Me

Hi, I'm Maria! I'm in my senior year at Saint Louis University and I'm studying Physical Therapy and Urban Poverty Studies. I'm excited to graduate in the spring and hopefully get the chance to do something like Americorps for the summer, before I'm headed back for two more years of grad school. Can't wait to get to know you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined couchsurfing because I want to have the chance to learn from and about the people who I share the world with. I love meeting new people and learning about cultures and ways of life that I may not be familiar with yet. Getting the chance to meet people different from oneself is essential, especially now. Other than that, I also love to travel, but I don't quite have the financial means to do so yet, so this site is perfect for me - combining cheap travel with meeting new people!

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite music changes day to day but currently my go to's are The Glass Animals, Childish Gambino, Kyle Thornton & Company, and, super late to the game, but I just started listening to Shakey Graves and I can tell that's going to be a favorite. Right now my favorite movie is Lady Bird and my favorite TV show is probably Handmaid's Tale or Jane the Virgin. My favorite books change year to year but I recently read The Poisonwood Bible and I loved that. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings will always be a favorite along with The Book Thief and of course all of the Harry Potter books. I have a super extensive reading list that I plan to getting to after graduating, but feel free to recommend more!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

About a year ago I studied abroad in Rome, Italy. During my time there I traveled a lot within Italy, often doing solo trips. A lot of people do this, so it's not really uniquely me, but it was definitely an amazing experience. Part of the reason I'm on here is to grow in my amazing experiences :)

Teach, Learn, Share

If you're interested, I'd love to teach you how to play or learn piano/music or how to improv on piano, and I can teach you how to make the best damn chocolate chip cookies you'll ever have. I currently live in a tiny apartment, so I'm not quite ready to host, but I'd love to tell you about what makes St. Louis so special and the best ways to spend your time in the city. I'd love to learn from you whatever it is your passionate about, and hopefully something I can continue to learn once I've left your city. I have some funny stories that I often share so I'd love to tell you some and share more about myself and learn from you as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As I said before, I have, in my unbiased opinion, the best recipe for chocolate chip cookies, so I'll bring those and share with my hosts. I also would love to talk with them about my experiences as well as theirs, if they want to talk.
