Hi there!
Welcome to my page, my name is Maria and I'm a student from Berlin. My studies are calles "are studies of Southeastasia" and covers many different aspects about the region. Last Semester I studied in Malaysian and I am volunteering North-Sulawesi now. Indonesia has fascinated me for quite some time now, I am also learning Bahasa Indonesia and have a passion for meeting new people and getting to know new cultures.
I am 24 years and my biggest hobby has been traveling for the past years. I have been to 36 countries and I am eager to see more. I love sharing stories and hanging out in the nature. Walking, trekking, biking, climbing, diving kind of anything you can do outside will make me happy :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing seems to be great a way to connect closer with the local people and helps to get a better understanding of what life really is like. Making new friends and being able to share stories and knowledge are amazing aspects of this. So far I have been doing a lot of homestay or staying with Indonesian friends, but now I am in a new area where I don't know anyone, therefore, I thought I try out Couchsurfing.

Interests

I would say that I have a broad interest in many things, especially when I am abroad. I'm eager to try out new things or also known things with a different perspective. Being active is important to me, but also having meals together and talking. Photography is a nice way to capture unique moments (although I am definitely no professional) and making memories.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like almost all sorts of music from classic to electronic music, my mood determines what kind of music suits me :-)
I am reading "mind illuminated" right now and I am fascinated by it! It is a book about mediation and it gives you insight what mediation is about and how to do it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just last weekend I got spend some time and work with local volunteers from Manado in a small village on the south coastline. We were monitoring turtles and helping the community to improve their conservation project. That was a lot of fun and the hospitality of the community was amazing.
