I've always had a hard time trying to describe myself, but I'll surely try to tell you as much as you wanna know.

So, my name is Mariana, but I've been called Mari my whole life and I prefer it like this - everytime someone calls me by my entire name, I get the impression they are angry or something like that.

I was born in a not-so-small countryside city near São Paulo called Bauru, where I also live right now, but, being a curious person, I've always tried to know different places and different cultures.

I studied Journalism in college and graduated just a couple of years ago, however I haven't yet had the chance to work as a journalist. When I was in college, I started working as a teacher and I found out I love this more than any other occupation I could have. So, currently I work as an English teacher in one of the most influent language schools in my country and I love - I ABSOLUTELY love - teaching teens.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to have the opportunity to know people from other countries and experience a brief immersion in their culture and costumes. Travelling alone and staying in hotels seem a little boring and lonely to me. I want to find myself some company to spend my trips with, talk and have fun.

I'm not looking for hook ups, romances or any kind of involvement. I have a boyfriend whom I love very much back in Brazil, so all I want is to meet people, share experiences and learn from my hosts.

I currently live with my parents and brother, so unfortunately, I'm not accepting guests right now, but I intend to in a near future.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have more books that I can tell. I started as a booktuber because of my great love for books and my collection includes a bunch of horror books, biographies and - what I consider to be my favorite genre - fantastic literature. I grew up reading the Harry Potter books and I still have this collection as the most important literary reference in my entire life (I'm a Ravenclaw, by the way)!

I also love Tim Burton and horror movies (or creepy ones, in general) and although I'm very busy nowadays and have just a little time to watch stuff, I still love TV series, especially Queer as Folk, Prison Break, Criminal Minds, Skins, The Walking Dead, Hannibal, etc.

I am a rock fan and I love metal, hard rock, screamo and goth music. My favorite band is a Finnish one called HIM - if you don't know this band, you should give it a shot, for sure!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 19, I had the chance to take part in a Government project called Project Rondon, which consists on taking students from privileged universities to remote areas of the country in order to offer assistance to those in need.

This is what I consider the greatest experience I had in my entire life. As a Journalism student, I was responsible for all the coverage and I also had activities with teenagers concerning the use of internet and behavior discussions.
