About Me

I'm a French Literature student. I used to live in Rennes, a city I know quite well. I spent one year in London as an au pair. Although quite busy this year, I may be able to host people in my shared flat in Greater Paris (Villejuif, South).
I should say "we" cause I live with my boyfriend Luka who is a plastician and a photographer and who comes from Bordeaux.
We have two flatmates named Camille and Chaitanya, respectively French and Indian. We all work a lot but we enjoy chatting, cooking and drinkint gin&tonic together!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I haven't had the occasion to try couchsurfing yet but I guess it's the best way to travel.
Tourism is much more interesting when you meet locals.
I hope that in my time of dying I'll still be in touch with people from everywhere :D

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a lot of stuff, from symbolist music to Amon Tobin, including blues, punk, grunge... My favourite band is Radiohead but I always like to listen to smaller indie bands.
I'm not really a cognoisseur but I always enjoy a good film. I like Italian cinema from the 60s for instance.
I'm not a bookworm either but I do study literature and obviously nobody forced me to do it hah. I have a taste for English metaphysical poetry, Flaubert, Proust, Raymond Radiguet, the Surrealists, Witold Gombrowicz... Too hard to make a list! I'm currently trying to read more essays and more contemporary works.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Teaching English in prison (in a French Left-wing student organization named GENEPI): making the walls a bit more porous, giving the convicts an occasion to get some free time and chat with people who don't wear a uniform -- and also an occasion to report abuse --, talking about prison in the outside world, explaining to "normal" people that there is life in there and that there is life before and after, etc. There are many reasons to do it and I'm very proud of it.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want to speak French, I'm very happy to help. Also very happy to learn languages.
I can show you some drawing tricks too, and some cooking recipes from France (for instance, macarons)...
As written before I'm just an amateur artist so I have a lot to learn, and I'm just interested in food, not a sterling cook at all, so I'm looking forward to hearing your advice. Traditional and exotic foods are always interesting. Right now I'm into English stews and pies. But any local or not local specialty would be a treat.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We should go to an indie gig in your favourite pub...
Or if you need backing vocals for a song you're recording in your home studio, maybe I can help... Who knows? You can listen to my voice here (and my English has got better since then) : https://soundcloud.com/ophite
I can draw your portrait and give you the original drawing. That's what I do with all my sitters, and I'm always looking for sitters! Follow this link if you want to see my portraits: http://fillettefillette.tumblr.com/
And I'd be glad to cook for you too :)
