I'm Marie, 23 y.o from Liège, Belgium. I have a bachelor degree in Germanic languages and I'm currently writing my master's thesis in multilingual communication. I'm really bad at describing myself and will work on that section in the near future. Plus, I think the section about "music, books and films" tells you more about me as a person than I could possibly do with my own words. I'll go with a few "fun facts" I spontaneously think of :

- I'm a very easy-going person, I can start a conversation with anyone about anything. I'm really always in a good mood, I never nag or complain, I try to be as nice as I can with other people, all the time.

- I used to organize metal gigs, I had to quit for a lack of venues/ressources but I miss it. So now I just love to have partys at my place where I cook for 25 people and manage the night's playlist. I like to make things happen even when it costs my time, energy and money.

- I have a LOT of things with dinosaurs on it (clothes, jewelry, school material, bed sheets, plush toys..). I'm a teenage mutant ninja turtles fan, I have an ever-growing funko-pop collections and even though I sometimes pretend to have sophisticated taste in art and culture really I'm like an 8-year-old boy.

- I'm a cat person but that doesn't refrain me from saying "puppy !" with love in my eyes every time I see one outside. I have an ugly one-eyed cat that I love more than anything or anyone else, she was initially called "Lucifer" because I thought she was a male but now she's Lucy (the one-eyed demon, the imperator of catkind, the thing ov evil)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I will leave Belgium in September to go and live in Linz, Austria for a year. There is absolutely NO ONE I know over there so I'm really willing to meet people and go out a bit. I also plan to travel a lot during the week-ends, be it to other Austrian cities or neighboring countries, it would be fun to find a partner in crime !

Music, Movies, and Books

I can spend hours and days listening to music, rating albums online, organizing playlists etc. Anything from dark ambiant to extreme metal via neofolk and classic rock. I also have guilty pleasures like Lady Gaga, tbh. To give you a better idea, my 2018 favorites so far are the last Urfaust, Aura Noir, Winterfylleth, Drudkh, Sleep and Summoning albums. But I'm open to anything really, just because I appreciate the alternative/underground scene doesn't mean I don't like to go to electro-clubs or jazz festivals every now and then.

I binge-watch series a lot. I recently re-watched all of OITNB's seasons because "the new one will be out soon and I forgot everything about the plot", I relate to BoJack Horseman in too many ways, I get paranoid because of Black Mirror and I recently watched the two first seasons of Stranger Things, twice, within two weeks because it was so good I had to watch it again with a friend. Also I'm a GoT nerd and love creating "theories" about the show's future.

I read a lot of twisted narratives written by crazy autors and also like "nordic noir" and sci-fi classics. Or I used to, because in this dreaded "thesis year" I could only read palgrave books about "place marketing". But I managed to discover the following gems over the last few month : The Devil All The Time (Pollock), Oblivion (Foster Wallace), Snuff (Palahniuk), Latour's Valet (Frobenius).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Oh man, every Friday night is an extraordinary adventure with me. I have the very bad habit of booking plane tickets on a whim to go attend some underground black metal concerts in every corner of Europe when I have a little bit of money aside. I can't handle moderation, I can't be a reasonable adult, and I never say no to a crazy bad idea.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd like to meet people in Austria and neighboring countries to visit different places outside the main tourist paths. But I'd also love to simply have a drink and a nice chat after work sometimes ! I don't have an appartement in Linz for now so I have no idea if I'll be able to host travelers but if I can I most certainly will !
