About Me

Hi everyone :)
My name is Marie and I'm 18 years old. I'm a student who lives near Ghent. I think it's fantastic to learn new languages, explore new countries/new traditions, taste local dishes.. You can achieve all this goals by traveling and that makes traveling fantastic.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For me, traveling is very important. It's so awesome to meet the locals, to eat local dishes, to explore a country.. When I travel around a country, I would visit everything that a country has to offer (yes I'm that kind of a tourist.. ;) ) I want to have learned a lot about the country when I go back home.. and I think couchsurfing is one of the best ways to learn these things

Music, Movies, and Books

I like music a lot, I listen to music many hours a day. Rock & Indie are my favorite music genres and my favorite artists are Muse, Coldplay, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Editors, Florence + The Machine, Oscar & The Wolf, Foo Fighters, Kaiser Chiefs, Kings of Leon, Bastille, Goose, The Last Shadow Puppets...

Every year, I go to Rock Werchter (a big rock- & popfestival in Belgium) and sometimes I go to Crammerock or Pukkelpop. I love festivals, because it's a combination of everything I love.. My friends, music, fun and of course: fastfood ;)

But I also love concerts, I go to ± 7 concerts a year.

My favorite movie is The Impossible, a film about the tsunami in Asia in 2004. I like this movie because a few years ago I went to Thailand & Sri lanka and I met people who experienced the tsunami

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In august 2014, I went to Sri Lanka. In Kandy, one of the largest cities of Sri Lanka, there is every year a grand festival/procession (Esala Perahera). It's celebrated to pay homage to the sacred tooth relic of Buddha. Thousands of people wait all day to attend this impressive procession in the evening. And I was one of them, I have been waiting for hours on a very, veryyy crowded sidewalk (it was about 34 degrees), but it was worth doing it. It was fantastic! Hundreds of elephants and local people (who were dancing in traditional clothes) passed.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Cabo Verde, Cambodia, China, Croatia, Cuba, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Morocco, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Vatican City State, Viet Nam
