About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Cycling about South America from Sept 2014 on

Our Blog : http://bicipampa.blogspot.com/

ABOUT ME

Wow, it's been a while since I've last been on Couchsurfing! I've been caught up in a daily routine that's kept me out of enjoyng CS, either as a host or a surfer. Now I'm back, and I intend to make the most of it, as I'm leaving for a ten-month cycling trip around South America in September, with my boyfriend Sylvère.

We don't see this project as a mere trip with its interesting visits, beautiful treks and fun moments.
We really want to meet people, that is, to truly share something authentic with them; we also plan to enjoy nature, to be at one with it, living in it and respecting it, in the way we travel in particular.
Our journey will also be a "spiritual" one, as we feel this experience will provide us with the opportunity to grow and reflect on our life choices.

Now, as for us, I think we're friendly, open-minded people, who're working on leading a simpler, more reasonable and sustainable life.
We're curious and we love to discover new things, and we don't object to any form of enjoying oneself !

PHILOSOPHY

As I've said already, we're working on changing for the better, so we're striving to be less judgemental and pessimistic (that's difficult for me, Marie), more open-minded, in order to always be in an attitude of tolerance, love and generosity - we have, unfortunately, still some work to do !

During our trip, we also intend to make the most of nature, and life, dealing with events and problems as they come, without trying to plan and control everyting.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We haven't hosted a lot of people yet; and we're going to use CS only as surfers for the months to come as we'll be travelling around South America.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed a few couches around Europe (also using the Hospitality Club), but I haven't hosted many surfers yet.
I've met extremely nice and interesting people thanks to CS, and I've had some incredible experiences with some of them.

Interests

Like any normal French people, we love food : eating it, cooking it, speaking about it (while eating it), and we like discovering new kinds of food.
We're very keen on outdoor activities, especially hiking, and cycling; more generally speaking we love being in the wild (particularly so as we lived in a big city until last June).
We also both like reading (comics, novels, essays...), watching movies, series and travel videos (but not TV programs - we don't have a Tv set). We're fond of music (we listen to it and go to concerts), however sadly we don't play instruments (Sylv used to play the saxophone).
We're keen on visiting museums, old churches, castles, and we always wish we could go into the "secret" corridors and other dark places that are forbidden to visitors. So in a word, we love discovering new things (and old ones too since we're into history and archeology).

We're also taking a bigger and bigger interest in means to change our way of life and ourselves: ecological and economical alternatives, permaculture, non-violent communication, meditation... We'd be very glad to learn more about these.

Music, Movies, and Books

Marie
Music: (a very random selection): Sigur Ros, Woodkid, Radiohead, Asaf Avidan, Alt+J, Nirvana, Ben Harper, Lhasa, Buena Vista Social Club, Edith Piaf, Georges Brassens, Mozart, Fauré...

books: I love English-speaking (-writing) authors, notably John Irving, Paul Auster, Roald Dahl, Kazuo Hishugiro...

movies : I watched "The secret life of Walter Mitty" recently and really enjoyed it and its message.

Teach, Learn, Share

I posted this recipe a long while ago ; now I'm rather willing to "share" things in real life.

1) Chicken/ pork and ananas curry: an amazingly easy recipe.
Fry some chicken/ pork until it gets golden. then add one ot two big tablespoon of curry (or more if you like); actually i tend to also put everything i've got handy (chili, paprika...). then you add some ananas chunks (half a fresh one or a can of ananas in syrup... in that case, add the syrup little by little, waiting for it to evaporate). you make it cook for at least ten min, so that the ananas is tender and almost caramelized. then you add some coconut milk (a can), leave all the stuff cook for several min. serve this with rice (cooked with spices). it shouldn't take you more than 20/25 min to have it done, and it's really excellent!
NB: Stefan's improvement to it: +cucurma, sesame oil, oinions, cumin
