About Me

Hey everyone! My name is Marie and I'm a psychology student from Berlin. I'd describe myself as calm and easy going and I love meeting new people with an open mind. When coming to a new place I really like exploring it through a locals perspective, going with the flow and getting to know random places so I can feel like I can take part in life there for some time. Back in highschool I did an exchange year in India and later I lived in Tel Aviv-Yaffa and Cairo for multiple months each and really fell in love with all of these places.

I like to travel slowly and haven't done a lot of backpacking yet but I’m gonna be for the next couple of months and I’m really excited about that! :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because of all the unexpected places you see and connections you can make and great opportunities to really get to know the cities and people you visit!

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a lot of genres and it’s hard to pick favorite artists, but I’ll just say The Kinks, Radiohead/ Thom Yorke, The Gorillaz, Amy Winehouse, Band of Skulls and a bit more recently Karen O, Santigold and Sudan Archives. I play the piano and guitar on a basic level and like to sing (also very gladly together with others!) and I like techno for dancing :)

Usually I love a movie that makes you think (and then sometimes one that doesn't). I really enjoy going to the smaller art house theaters and always love to talk to people who are into movies.

Reading is something that I definitely should do more often - the list of books I really want to read is long! I also like reading poetry from time to time, for example by Edna st Vincent Millay.

Teach, Learn, Share

Sharing: stories from my travels, about my experience working with autistic people and interning in a psychiatry and many other things.

I can teach you some words in a number of languages that I started learning at some point, how to draw Indian henna tattoos or how to make pretty okay vegan banana pancakes :)

At the moment I’m learning bouldering, playing the guitar and Arabic and would always appreciate help with that and generally I'm always up to learning basically anything!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Lots of stories, talks and possibly my slowly developing cooking and hairdressing skills :)
