Overview
About Me
My name is Marina and I'm a 31yo journalist and photographer who left Brazil in december 2019 to start a round the world backpacking trip - I've been to South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya (where I was volunteering when lockdown came - ended staying there for 9 months!), Ethiopia, Egypt (also stayed there for 9 months), Turkey and Nepal, where I've just completed the Everest Base Camp! Also been to Ukraine, Thailand, Indonesia, India...
My main objective is to explore the world while learning about different cultures and realities - specially those related to women, since I'm very interested in gender studies.
And sure, I'm also looking for lots of adventure: I simply love anything to do with trekking, sports, food and learning new things and experiences. Life is more and I'm always ready to live :) Life is too short to be small, right?
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Because my aim is to soak up as much as possible of local cultures and get to know different lifestyles at heart from the places I visit during this journey, Couchsurfing seems to be the perfect opportunity. I couldn't imagine a better picture than getting to know new people and exchanging experiences!
Interests
I'm serious when I say that I love some adventure, from having new cultural experiences to trekking and sports - I used to play soccer, handball, volley, amateur indoor climbing and even chess in Brazil - and am desperate to learn how to surf, btw!
On the other side, some may say I spend calories so I can eat and I should declare myself as guilty - I LOVE food, specially if it envolves chocolate.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Well, I used to be the lead singer in a rock girlband that played at some festival gigs, survived the Death Road downhill in Bolivia, climbed some mountains in Peru and dance Brazilian funk music until dawn while camping in the middle of Atacama Desert... I've swam with dolphins and played soccer with Masai men in Tanzania, slept over in a tribe in Ethiopia, climbed Kilimanjaro and just completed the Everest Base Camp trek!
Oh, and I've hugged a lhama too.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Some of my stories, photography and writing tips, Brazilian slangs and some goodwill to cook Brazilian food.
I'm a bit goofy, so I can share some sense of humor and good energy as well if needed :)
