About Me

Hello fellow Couchsurfers!

Thanks for taking the time of reading my profile.

I used to have this very looong profile and I got the feeling it bored many people to death.. So I'm gonna keep it a bit shorter now!

I'm a Spanish guy from Madrid. At the age of 18 I moved to United Kingdom for a few months and ended up there for 7 years. The UK gave me the opportunity to meet a variety of people from many different countries and backgrounds which was a fantastic experience.

I enjoy nature and most outdoor activities. I'm a big fan of the sea and water in general so any chance to take a dip is welcomed. I'm also vegan which I hope it's not a problem. I'm super easygoing when it comes to food and if given the chance I would be more than happy to prepare food for you!

I'm currently living in Melbourne and living with two friends. We can't host all the time but I would love to start helping out some travellers.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It all started a few years ago with a friend telling me about Couchsurfing. I simply couldn't believe it, I couldn't think people would be willing to share so much with people they didn't know.

The same friend then suggested going on a road trip around UK staying with different Couchsurfers. The trip was such a great experience and opened my eyes completely. I can proudly say it changed my life.

Since that first experience I've hosted and been hosted more than 50 times and every single experience has been amazing on its own way!

Interests

I love trying new things!

I really enjoy cooking and sharing food with people.

Cycling is a great part of my life so if you're staying with us, we'll probably lend you a bike!

Music, Movies, and Books

In terms of music I'm quite open, I'm not very good at remembering artists' names but I can enjoy pretty much any style!

-Books: My favourite author by far is George Orwell. I tend to enjoy more classic authors but open to any good book!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Back in 2012 during the summer holidays while I was still at University, I decided to do the "Camino de Santiago" a pilgrimage through France and the North of Spain.
The plan was to walk down from Bayonne (France) to Santiago de Compostela (Spain), approximately 900km.

I started the adventure where I lived ( Portsmouth, UK). I first took a ferry down to St. Malo (France) and then then idea was to hitchhike down to Bayonne to start the walk.
When I arrived to France the weather was horrible and I didn't even have a place to stay for the night. I decided to hitchhike down to Rennes in hope for better luck .
Surprisingly, it was sunny down there and it happened to also be the "Fete de la Musique". A day of celebrations and music all around the city. Still aware of not having a place to sleep I decided to enjoy the sunshine and the was music.
At some distance I spotted a group of fellow Spaniards so I approach them in hope for advice. My luck continued and they happened to be a group of Erasmus students who quickly made me feel part of the group and even offered to stay their place for the night.
The next morning I carried on with my plan and hitchhiked down to Nantes where I was lucky to have a brilliant couple of CSers hosting me!

A couple of days later I carried on hitchhiking down towards my starting point for the pilgrimage. A few adventures came in the way like sleeping in some random places and getting lifts from a variety people including the canoeing Spanish team who was driving back from a competition in Sweden.

Finally I managed to get to my starting point but failing to plan I ended up having to sleep on a bench in a park. Being nice and warm outside it wasn't much of an issue.

The next morning I then started walking and I carried on walking, and walking and walking for 34 days.
During that time I went through loads of different adventures, met hundreds of people, learn about different cultures, saw some amazing places and definitely grew as person.
While there are many albergues where one can stay very affordably. I often still ended up sleeping outdoors to save money as I was on a tight budget.
Some of the most random "couches" in the journey were a graveyard in the Cantabrian mountains or an abandoned Polish van from Poland by the side of a petrol station.

All the time I had to reflect and think over those 34 days was one of the best experiences in my life. It changed me as a person in many aspects and it gave me the opportunity to make myself many questions.
As I finished the journey I decided I no longer wanted to consume animals and became vegetarian which with years developed into veganism.

I like to learn from everyone, I believe everyone has something to teach!

I guess I can teach you some Spanish, English or some vegan cooking.
