Overview
About Me
Hey there everyone, I am Mariya - 21-years-old philologist (a lot of people don't know what it is, so philology is a mix of studying literature and linguistics) from cold Siberia, Russia. My two biggest life-goals are becoming the citizen of the world and being able to speak fulently at least 15 languages. I'm a very openminded person and always ready to learn.
I have a pretty big amount of interests and you can read it below. Wanna be good at as many things as possible.
CURRENT MISSION:
1. To be an explorer and find something wonderful to share with the world where ever I go.
2. To bring love and laughter to all those who come into my presence.
3. Be remembered (a lot of ambitions yeah).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I created my account for Couchsurfing when I was in New York and needed the place to stay for the night.
I also think that it is a great opportunity to get to know the people from all over the world, imporove my english, italian and other languages I learn and to share my culture and experience with the people who are interested in that and to learn something about their culture as well. Nowadays we learn a lot about the other countries from mass media and it shows the things not in the way they really are. So Couchsurfing is a wonderful chance to meet real people, to see how they live, to learn about their daily-life, latest news in the country, to have interesting and deep talks with them and so on.

Music, Movies, and Books
MUSIC: everything - starting from classical music and finishing with rock or rap. I can find something close to my heart in every kind of music. But, I guess, I still have some favorite ones: Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons, Adele, The Piano Guys, Oh Wonder, Ben Howard, Sam Smith, The Swell Season (deep love to this couple), The Chainsmokers, ODESZA. I can also say that I am a huge fan of Icelandic folk (Tom Rosenthak, for example).
MOVIES: I am a huge fan of the movies which leave some interesting thoughts after watching them, which make your mind wider and richer. I love old movies as much as new ones. If you start this topic with me, it will probably be difficult to make me shut up :) It is diffiicult to choose some favorite ones but i tried: Inception, The Revenant, 12 Angry Men, King's Speech, Captain Fantastic, The Dark Knight, Les Chorists, Annie Hall, Last Night, When Harry Met Sally, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Les Miserables, Big Fish, Dances With Wolves, Dead Poets Society, Il Bisbetico Domato, Scent of a Woman, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Lion King, Rain Man, The Pianist, Knickin' on Heaven's Door, Intouchables, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Hacksaw Ridge, Spotlight, Schindler's List, Manchester by the Sea, Macbeth, Whiplash, Cloud Atlas and so on.
BOOKS: I love reading a lot as well. I admire Russian, American, German and French classics. My major at university is philology (literature and language) so I can make a good dialogue with you about different authors. My favorite authors are: Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Leo Tolstoy, Boris Pasternak, Maxim Gorky, Mikhail Bulgakov, Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Ray Bradbury, Walt Whitman, James Fenimore Cooper, John Steinbeck, William Faulkner, Jack London, Margaret Mitchell, Edgar Allan Poe, George Orwell, Johann Goethe, Franz Kafka, Friedrich Schiller, Thomas Mann, Erich Maria Remarque, Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Albert Camus, Voltaire, Honore de Balzac, Jean Racine, Jean-Jacques Rousseau. I am also a huge fan of HARRY POTTER (of course, raised on it). I read all the books twice and of course love the movie as well.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- got the 1st place on the contest in Moscow and Kazan with my dancing team
- won the award as the best actress on the theatre festival in Sochi in 2015
- was paragliding over Turkey
Teach, Learn, Share
I think it is always interesting to share information about ones homeland with people from abroad and to hear about theirs.
I also have a pretty big experience of learning different languages, so it would be a pleasure for me to help you to improve you language if you're learning one of the languages I'm pretty good at. I would be thankful if you share your experience of learning foreign langueges as well.
I also think it's cool to hear about the experiences of the other people which one has not experienced oneself.
I read and watch a lot (psycological books about people, BBC movies and TV shows about different countries and traveling, daily news about everything what's going on in the world, the greatest novels of all the times, journals about art and so on) so I would be a pretty good company to talk about different things.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my travel experience, a plenty of different stories which happen to me every time I go traveling, smiles, good mood, discussions about life (always opened to talk about whatever you want, cause i'm very interested in people in common).
And of course, if I stay in your house I will always try to bring you a little heart-warming gift from Russia :)
