About Me

Hi fellow travellers!

I'm Marjolaine. This frenchie name of mine is most likely to give you a hard time if you don't speak french... So I'm Marj for most of my non-francophone friends ;)

I am a very sociable animal, thirsty for human encounters and relations - ideally based on mutual exchange, empathy and solidarity, but hey, I'm open! And although I love to spend time socializing, sharing ideas, experiences and perspectives on the world, I enjoy being on my own as well. I'm more than comfortable with silence. I think it's one other good thing to be shared sometimes ;)

I guess I am some kind of semi-hippie / semi-punk pragmatic utopian (ha ha). I see philosophical/socio-political in all things and actions, and I'm happy when mine fit with my vision of a better world. I believe financial capitalism will somehow come to an end and I hope for a shift towards a societal system based on ressources and beings. I like to think we can all humbly but daily contribute to this. For me, sharing space and bits of life with humans travelling around the world is part of it. The fact that no money's involved is obviously a socio-political gesture, but I reckon it opens up to truer interactions and I love that.

I am happy to share time and space with travellers I host, join in for some outings when timing is good, but can't be in charge of your trip nor your days here. I appreciate hosting sociable but autonomous travellers although I am more than happy to help!

Please do not hesitate to express your expectations/apprehensions/specific needs or sensitivities, the idea here is to keeping it a safe-space :)

Totally LGBTQ friendly.
Totally racist/homophobic/sexist/fascist UNfriendly.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Who doesn't like to connect with locals when landing in a new city, right? Especially if they're travel-loving fellows wishing to be sharing bits of their place and time with ya!

As for hosting, I like the dynamics it brings home. I've lived with roommates in large apartments (typical of Montreal, very untypical of Paris!) for years, sharing space, meals, daily banalities as well as deep talks, with up to 3-4 roommates. Lots of them were from other countries, all of us had friends all over the world : we would have family, friends, or friends' friends taking over our couches more often than not. Travellers fill a home with such great vibes, they can lighten an afterwork mood in seconds! And how good are they at bringing out new perspectives on your city... In other words, their travellers' joyful and eager state of openness are contagious and I love it!

I now live in Paris with my man, who has been living with roommates and travelling a lot himself. We haven't been able to host much so far cause we share a tiny studio. Good news is : we'll be moving in a real apartment in a couple of months and will have some decent space to share with some of you guys! We will be happy to start hosting again as of February 2018 (but one can ask before then : we never know...).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having this amazing privilege of travelling with this lovely auzzie-irish crew met in Cinque Terre, Italy, all the way down to Puntalazzo, Sicily. We stayed in Trish's family for almost a month, in the middle of a lovely community. Where each neighboor grows or makes some goods that they all share with one anoter: one distributes fresh eggs that he gets from chickens living on his land, another olives and olive oil since she got those trees at home, and so on...
The landscape is also breath taking... Village of Puntalazzo is overseeing the bay between Syracuse and Messina, but it also stands at foot of Etna volcano. We even got to be awaken one night by Etna's brief but intense eruption, rambling and blasting lava high in the air, just a couple of hundreds meters from our eyes... Amazing time and memory.
