About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Giving sustainable behaviour a nudge

ABOUT ME

I'm an enthusiastic, optimistic person. I have a passion for sustainability, the environment and everything 'green'. I'm also very curious, so I love to learn about other cultures, meet new people etc.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that everyone can and must make a difference. I believe in a kind of utopia where people share everything, possession and money are meaningless, and everyone has enough and can do what they want. I believe such a society would work. I am optimistic about the future, although I'm in doubt whether most of us will see it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For now, I'm interested in surfing. I do plan to host in the future, once we get our appartment properly set up.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Not much. I've stayed with a family in Poland during middle school, and I've been using AirBnB for my most recent vacations.

Interests

I have very broad interests, so it's always hard for me to describe myself, but in my spare time I play computergames (mainly strategy or rpg), read fantasy and science-fiction books (Terry Pratchett, Robert Jordan), play boardgames or table-top roleplaying games with friends or just hang out with friends to talk. I like many different types of music, and I am very interested in learning about new styles and artists. I love learning about cultures and the differences and similarities between them. I am very interested in history as well. As I said, I have trouble defining myself.

Music, Movies, and Books

I watch very different movies for very different reasons. I enjoyed Disney's Frozen, I'm a great fan of the makers of Shaun of the Dead and I can watch Hot Fuzz endlessly. The movie that most impacted me in recent years was 'the road'. A horribly wonderful movie, I loved it, but I spent the rest of the evening looking for happy things to balance my emotions.

Concerning music, as I said before, I like lots of styles. I do prefer music with instruments over electronic music, although I can enjoy a dubsteb-party. I've got a soft spot for Scottish and Irish folk music, and I think Blind Guardian is the best band in recent history.

I love reading Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, George R.R. Martin and Terry Brooks.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've travelled through Australia for three months...with my grandmother. It was the most awesome trip of my life, and has helped shape me into the person I am today.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Biology/ecology; social equalitarianism

Learn: I'm very interested in the different cultures and histories outside Europe. I've noticed that most of the history I've been taught in school was about Europe, with a bit of the America's tossed in.

Share: Everything! Seriously; if I can share something, I will. I think it's very weird that some people do not want to share goods, ideas or time.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, Luxembourg, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Netherlands
