About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore the unknown & fulfil the long-distance dreams

ABOUT ME

This we'd need to ask from someone, who knows me! Extroverted would propably be one of the key terms - though I like the time on my own also. Curious and active - but sometimes lazy and passive. Talkative - but sometimes very quiet (very rarely though).

I have a passion for learning and educating myself, want to dig deep into the philosophical aspect of life. Study multiculturalism, religions, welfare, imm-/emigration, secularism, European Union, politics, policies; meetings of people crossing the borders in various contexts and levels.

I think I'm not the breavest person in the world, though it depends on the perspective. I like to try new stuff, face the wind. Haven't climed the Kilimanjaro nor Himalaya (yet) but been living and backbacking around Europe (especially Central/Eastern), survived from Tanzanian bush and double hit of malaria.

PHILOSOPHY

"Be the change you wish to see in the world." - M. Gandhi

This would be the ideal, at least. I think that honesty is one of the crucial things in this life. To live through all the feelings, get to know life as it is - for me, you, for others. Enjoy, celebrate, show your happiness - but also share your sorrows and burdens when needed. Balance and positive attitudes give you the go! :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My previous experiences in CS have been amazing! I got to know some wonderful people, who were kind enough to host me on my travels to Dubai-Malaysia-Australia. At the moment I am just settling into my life in Helsinki, thus happy to keep active in the community by showing people around this arctic city.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

For years now I've been recommended to join ("That would the thing for you!") - and finally got it done. No CS experience through this service yet, but various experiences through other contacts...

The best one has propably been, when I was able to provide various couches for friends from very far and travel around Finland with them; night train to Lapland, a week in -30'C and a meter of snow, back in Helsinki, visiting my family cottage by a lake, swimming in the frozen lake, showing the beatiful wooden cityparts in Rauma... As this comes to my mind first, I can only say that I love to be a tour guide & provide experiences!

But it is hard to compare: I've loved to visit friends' places abroad also, and been treated most wonderfully. I love being part of the everyday life, nothing special needs to happen all the time, just the routines; that's how most people live in the end. So nothing to complain about in my previous experiences - or why else would plan to do this even more?

Interests

Studying, pondering, academia, handicrafts, local cultures, dancing, the everyday life, basic sports (e.g. jogging, swimming, orienteering, cross-country & downhill skiing, yoga) but also trying new ones, gardens, forests, nature, countryside, live gigs, nostalgia, discussions, good food, good wine, good company.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Haven't had too much time for movies...

Music: Lately I've been listening a lot of classical. Always love soul, jazz, groove, blues, funk. Rather local artists than the big stars. Live gigs are the best, especially in a cosy pub or cafe.

Books: Too many academic studies lately, especially about sociology and religions. Love historical novels & travel stories!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Standing in the middle of a desert in northern Tanzania with the eternally moving dune on my side & sand flying in the air; totally got into the idea of proper clothing! :) (See photo.)
