Overview
About Me
I moved to Wellington about a year ago to take up a strange job at a strange little start-up company, and before that I was at university studying physics. I've lived in New Zealand for most of my life, with brief stints in Denmark and the UK when I was younger. I'm pretty sociable, enjoy having a few drinks with friends, equally happy staying in with a few wines and good conversation or going out (actually probably happier staying in these days, getting too old for all that cavorting about)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I spent 6 months travelling with a friend in 2013, and we couchsurfed using his profile for a pretty big chunk of that. We had the most incredible time, met so many interesting people through CS and were truly humbled by the kindness people showed us. I have just moved in to a place with enough space to host, so would like to give something back to the community. It's also nice to travel vicariously through surfers!
Interests
I love well-communicated science, big fan of Richard Feynman, Carl Sagan and Neil deGrasse Tyson and those of their ilk.
Also cycling, rock climbing, hiking, scuba diving, and other such outdoorsy pursuits.
I like the idea of coffee, but not really the taste, so trying to trick my senses into enjoying it with mochachinos. One day flat whites, one day...

Music, Movies, and Books
I like to curl up with some good ol' British comedy, things like Monty Python, Peep Show, Blackadder, Little Britain etc really hit the spot.
In terms of movies the Lord of the Rings trilogy is pretty up there, Birdman, The Dark Knight, The Wolf of Wall Street, Fight Club, In Bruges, Gattaca. Also strangely into the Disney movie Tangled...
Massive fan of Games of Thrones, both the TV series and books.
I like popular science books; The Selfish Gene, DNA: The Secret of Life, Cosmos, Frozen Star. And Asterix and Obelix comics, them too.
There, that should be enough information to rate me as a human being!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Witnessed the most powerful thunderstorm I've ever experienced whilst staying on a tiny island off the coast of New Hampshire; great bolts of lightning illuminating the sea for miles around, waves lashing over the shoreline, rain pummelling down. Kind of like that scene in Forrest Gump with Captain Dan in the crow's nest, but with less cursing of the heavens!
What I Can Share with Hosts
We have two couches, not the biggest in the world but a pretty comfy nest can be made out of their pillows. I have four delightful flatmates, two male two female all working in Wellington. We all work fairly regular hours during the week, but outside those and on weekends very happy to show surfers round Wellington!
