About Me

I think I'm very young for my age, as I enjoy being very active, going hiking in far-flung spots around China, etc. I'm a correspondent for Bloomberg BNA, covering China's business/economic scene from Shanghai. I worked at Shanghai Daily as an editor for a total of almost two years.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

One of the reasons I'm in China is to meet local people and get to better understand the country. What better way? Living in Shanghai, you get the added benefit of meeting people from all over the world, and couchsurfers seem to be a varied and interesting bunch.
Now I am in Sacramento, California, and I would welcome visitors.

Interests

Hiking, nature, reading (especially about current events), movies, music, sports, exploring the amazing city of Shanghai, my adopted hometown.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: rock, pop, jazz, classical (almost any genre other than country and opera).
Movies: anything by great directors ranging from Zhang Yimou to Woody Allen to Stanley Kubrick to Steven Spielberg. Enjoy a good comedy, too.
Books: Mostly non-fiction. Now reading Evan Osnos' "Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth and Faith in the New China." Next will try tackling "Dream of the Red Mansion."

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiked the Grand Canyon from rim to rim over four days with two close friends in 2010. Most physically exhausting thing I've ever done, but oh-so-rewarding! Also hiked Tiger Leaping Gorge over the National Day holiday in 2015. Loved it!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share travel experiences from North America to Europe to Southeast Asia and all around China. Would enjoy language exchange - I teach you some English, you teach me some Mandarin (which I have failed to learn )-: I can play the piano a little bit and love music.

What I Can Share with Hosts

See above, plus I'm happy to show visitors around Shanghai or hang out with locals at museums, parks, or wherever. I'm not a big club guy but going out for a drink now and then is fine.

Countries I’ve Visited
