About Me

I've been writing, drawing and publishing comics for twenty-five years. You can check out my work at www.iboxpublishing.com

I've put out dozens of comics and graphic novels over the years, -mostly young adult adventure stories. My work has been in comic shops all over the world! (Keen!)

After having lived in Nova Scotia (Wolfville) for 14 years, I'm looking to move to a new region, but I haven't decided where yet. I'm traveling around to see new places where a working cartoonist might settle in, make friends and enjoy a bit of outdoors adventure.

I like biking, good conversation and learning about new places and people. And of course, drawing and painting.

I've traveled all around North America, and did a couple of months backpacking through Europe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've heard great things about Couchsurfing! -About how you can meet lots of nice people open to adventure and healthy living. That sounds like a great way to engage with life.

Also, while I've always managed to pay my bills and my dues, I've never been particularly wealthy, so being able to see the world and connect with people in a way I can afford is very appealing.

Music, Movies, and Books

I mostly enjoy hearing other people's favorite music, but after having lived in Nova Scotia, I've developed a fondness for the folksy vibe of the local music scene. David Francey was a welcome discovery.

I read all over the place. Some of my favorite fiction has included Jasper Fforde's sci-fi stuff, and Erin Morgenstern's "Night Circus". I recently read Issac Asimov's old "Foundation" series. (It took me forever to finally get around to reading that, but it was completely worth it!) I'm currently reading "All the Birds in the Sky" by Charlie Jane Anders, and am digging that.

My latest non-fiction books included an auto-biographical work by Carl Bernstein (who helped break the Watergate story back in the Nixon years).

I'm a sucker for sci-fi movies, and I'll watch pretty much anything along those lines. I'm writing a time-travel comic right now, so I've been digging into that kind of thing whenever I find something old or new I've not seen before.

I love animation, and my favorite director is Hayo Miyazaki. There are some good things being done in the West these days. I'm looking forward to a new series called, "Hilda" about a cool little girl who lives in a magical city and has these crazy adventures; it's another work from a loose-knit group of new, really smart and bright comics and animation creators who have been doing amazing things lately. "Gravity Falls" and "Steven Universe" are among their efforts.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Jeez. I don't know. I've done tons of neat things, but nothing really over the top. For a while, selling comics and doing sketches at farmer's markets was really exciting for me, but I don't know if that would seem particularly amazing to anybody.

The last cool thing I did was travel out to a little school in the middle of nowhere in the next province to lead a comics workshop with a bunch of grade fives. They'd never had anybody come to do something like that before, and it was great! But again.., I don't know if that's especially amazing. We all liked it though. :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm easy going and supportive, clean and aware of other's needs and know how to not step on toes. I love a good conversation, know how to prepare good food, and will probably want to draw bits of your world. I always travel with a sketch book, and my adventures often make their way into comics at some point.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, England, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United States
