About Me
Please read before requesting!
- Personalised requests are much more likely to be accepted. You don't have to write an essay, just mention something from my profile that you relate to.
- Please use the Send Request feature, I don't usually respond to requests in DMs.
- I only have one hard-and-fast rule about requests: If you can't even be bothered to type my name (it's four letters!), then I won't bother to type out a response when I hit Decline.
- If you are requesting for more than one person, please link their profile in the request. If they don't have a profile, help them create one and introduce them to the world of Couchsurfing!
- I'd appreciate it if you tell me what time you expect to arrive and leave so I know how much time I'll have to spend with you.
Thanks for reading!

I'm Mark, originally from England but currently based in Sweden. I like to travel! In 2012 I quit my job and spent several months in Europe, visiting different countries, meeting interesting people and having some incredible experiences. The phrase 'life-changing experience' is overused but it certainly gave me more confidence and an insatiable bug for travelling! Since then I've made similar trips to New Zealand and North America, as well as several more tours of Europe.
You can read about my past adventures on my blog here: http://nontraveller.wordpress.com
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing has changed the way I travel. I usually travel alone but I like to meet people on the way. I used to rely on hostels to achieve this but they can be hit and miss - you never know how sociable they'll be. For my USA/Canada trip I signed up to CS and met people almost every day. Since I like to get away from the tourist traps and get to know the real local culture, meeting locals is a big help.
It's also done wonders for my social life back home. I've met some awesome people in my own town and regularly attend local CS events.
Interests
I like getting out into nature to hike and camp, when the weather allows. I don't care whether it's mountains, forests, coast or lakes, I want in it! Not much of a party person, I prefer a quiet pint or two down a local pub. When I'm at home I play videogames, watch comedy movies or read, play a little guitar and go out running.
I've been vegetarian my whole life, but am also curious about vegan alternatives. I can be quite lazy but try to beat it by going out running at least once a week and cycling to work occasionally.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Rock, electronica, indie, folk, house, trance, classical, chiptune, anything I like the sound of basically!
Movies: Life of Brian, Memento, The Fifth Element, In Bruges, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, most things Pixar.
Books: Pretty much anything by Terry Pratchett, hard sci-fi, Hitchiker's Guide, Bill Bryson, pop science.
I think that serves as a fairly accurate cross-section of my likes :)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Cycled naked through the streets of Portland, Oregon along with 8,000 other people in various states of undress. Ask me about it if you want to know more!
