About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore the music scenes of New Orleans, Austin, and anywhere else where cool music is happening

ABOUT ME

I'm a laid back guy and music is my passion and profession. I'm primarily a guitar player and I love singing too. I love all music but my favorite genres are Classic Rock, Jazz, and Bluegrass/Old-Time. I adapt easily to all kinds of situations, and enjoy being around people of all different personalities and backgrounds. I'm a loyal friend and a good listener. My blog/website is www.markkilianski.com.

PHILOSOPHY

It's important to treat people and the earth with kindness. I want to leave the world a better place than it was when I arrived here in 1987.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I'm looking for couches in New Orleans. I will be able to host occasionally in Boston when I return in January.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed on many couches, floors, tents, and spare bedrooms during my travels around the Northeast, touring with my Band, The Whiskey Boys. I also love having musical friends stay over at my house.

Interests

Music! I've played guitar in lots of classic rock, jazz, and bluegrass bands, and I love to listen to great music of all genres and see live shows. I'm also a semi-serious runner and planning on running the Boston Marathon in April, which I believe will be my first and only marathon. I like beer and whiskey, from the simple pleasures of PBR and Jim Beam to the refined flavors of Arrogant Bastard Ale and Glenlivet, usually in moderation, sometimes in excess. I also enjoy riding my bike, swimming in the ocean, and being in nature. My main focus right now is music, but I hope to someday dedicate myself to helping people or the environment or both.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorites are Led Zeppelin, O Brother Where Art Thou, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Other favorites are The Allman Brothers, The Punch Brothers, Crooked Still, Jeff Beck, Jim Hall, Casablanca, The Big Sleep, Fantasia, Shawshank Redemption, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, The Odessey, The Stranger, Cat's Cradle, and Miles Davis's autobiography.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I went camping with my friends in high school we decided to take a hike. We didn't really know where we were going but we just kept going up this mountain. After about an hour and a half we were all tired and ready to quit, but we decided to go a little bit farther to see if we could get to the top. Pretty soon we saw that we were almost there and quickly moved to the summit. When we got there we discovered a huge lake! We dove into the cool, pure water and felt rejuvenated. The combination of friendship, traveling to an unknown destination, and the beauty of nature made it one of the greatest experiences of my life.

My greatest personal accomplishment is touring the Northeast for 3 years and releasing 4 albums with The Whiskey Boys, who I leave now to embark on a Southern adventure and explore new musical outlets. I've played in total dumps to nobody, at festivals for hundreds of people, and at intimate house concerts sharing beautiful moments with beautiful audiences who were strangers the night before.

Teach, Learn, Share

Musical knowledge! I know a lot about music theory, music history, and pretty much anything musical. I love to share and swap all this knowledge.
