CURRENT MISSION

I'm currently studing and living in Qingdao in order to improve my level of Mandarin Chinese.

ABOUT ME

My name is Markéta, and I'm a 23 years old girl from the Czech Republic, currently living in Qingdao. I'm an easy going person eager to learn Chinese, meet new people and discover Chinese culture. I'm a smiling and positive person, who would like to find new Chinese friends.

PHILOSOPHY

Being positive in life, always find a reason why to smile. Try to search the good in people and your surroundings.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have met a few people through Counsurfing in Qingdao, who helped me with my Chinese and have become my friends. I have never used the opportunity to use someone's couch :) for spending a night there, so that's a challenge for future.

Interests

My hobbies are reading books, watching series, sports - mainly jogging, fitness, yoga and skiing. My next hobby is also international politics and relations and I really like to speak about these topics with other people. I love reading newspapers and opinions and to think about the world around me from different views. I also love learning languages, right now my passion is Chinese!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a fan of detective series - Bones, Rizzoli and Isles, True Detective.
I love books, which concern with the topic of the WW II. I really liked Sofie's Choice and The Unbearable Lightness of Being (which is by the way written by Czech author Milan Kundera).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I cannot say that there is a one amazing thing I have done in my life, more likely there are things which I'm proud of. I'm an active member of a youth organisation, where I'm in charge of youth exchanges. I write projects, which I then send to the European Union and through the financial help of the EU me and a team of young people in our organisation organize youth exchange for young people from the whole Europe. Because of these projects, we have welcomed during years more than 500 youngsters from many European countries and we have also sent more than 500 youngsters from the Czech Republic to youth exchanges abroad.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm eager to learn about the culture and habits of people around me. I'd like to get to know China more deeply, to understand this big country and its people. Because of that I'm living there right now, to learn the language and to feel the culture. So it's an honour for me to have a conversation with any foreigner, who can show and explain to me their way of thinking, way of life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

What I can share with you is my own culture, my own language and my life experience. I'm fluent in Czech, German and English, currently studying Chinese, so we can chat in any of these languages. I can also speak about Europe, about our custom and about what is it like to live in a country, which whole populations is just a little bit bigger than the population of Qingdao.:)
