About Me

CURRENT MISSION

New experiences, good conversation, interesting people

ABOUT ME

I'm an American married to a German citizen who has settled in Germany permanently.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far, I've surfed twice, and both times have been amazing experiences. We're interested in hosting once we've gotten settled in our apartment, after having spent a year living "abroad" (well, in the U.S., my home country).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed: Jon from the UK (Munich), Rene and Anja (Göttingen).

Haven't hosted yet but am looking forward to the opportunity.

Interests

Psychoanalysis, philosophy, religion/spirituality, music, movies, TV, racquetball/squash, reading, and food.

Music, Movies, and Books

A small sampling:

Movies: David Lynch, Ingmar Bergman, German "New Cinema" (Fassbinder, Wenders, Herzog, et al.).

Music: I used to be a jazz musician and still listen to a lot of jazz. I also enjoy rock (from the Beatles to Sufjan Stevens to Beck to the Flaming Lips), and classical music (I tend to like really small-scale stuff like Ravel's piano pieces or really bombastic stuff like Wagner or Mahler). I'm also a big fan of experimental music like Stockhausen, John Cage, avant-garde jazz, etc.

Books: After having not read much fiction while writing my dissertation, I'm getting back into it again, especially been enjoying books by Haruki Murakami.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Great Wall of China. And the Kölner Dom (Cologne Cathedral), which blows me away no matter how many times I see it.

Teach, Learn, Share

What I have to offer:
- Years of studying psychology, philosophy, and religion (good conversation)
- Sharing a meal (I'm a good cook and also generally know good restaurants in the city where I'm living)
- Racquetball/squash game.
- An opportunity to practice English or German (I love language).

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, Estonia, Mexico, Netherlands, Russian Federation, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In

Germany, United States
