About Me

I'm Marko!

I work as a software developer but I can often be found meditating, writing poems or petting cats.

I'm travelling around South America, exploring the cities, hiking and cycling in nature, trying to get to know the people and their culture, and doing my best to learn some Spanish!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I used to be an avid Couchsurfer many years ago, before the covid times, and have made some beautiful memories with people from all over the world. I've always liked the kindness that underlies it all -- people giving and sharing without expecting anything in return, and the spontaneous element of it -- you never know who you're going to meet, or what you're going to learn or experience!

Interests

I've always been a geek, which has taken many forms -- previously it was natural science, and currently it's technology and the web.

I really love spending time in nature, hiking, camping and looking out for various plants and animals.

I've had a deep interest in meditation and Buddhism, which has really transformed my life and has helped me deal better with my thoughts and feelings, and has made me form better and healthier relationships.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like lots of different genres, including indie pop / rock, 80s / 90s, electronic and instrumental stuff.

I'm quite into art cinema. Recently I've developed an interest in films that manage to be simultaneously funny and scary.

I've been reading a lot of books about psychology and Buddhism.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a couple of months in Israel, teaching web development to the Arab minority, to train them up and help them get into the technology market. It was a very rewarding experience, everyone got a job, and I also got to eat a lot of delicious hummus and falafel in the process.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always keen to learn and improve my language skills, and I'd love to teach you some phrases from the languages I know. I can cook my favourite dish for you, and you can cook yours for me. I teach you how to meditate, some basics of photography, how to create a website... I also know how to fold a fitted sheet!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I think the most I can share is my life experience, and the wisdom I've gained from it. It takes some vulnerability but that's the only way to connect.
