About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel as often as possible while understanding new ways of living and dealing with the world

ABOUT ME

Raised in southeast lower Michigan, have made a home in West Michigan, and working to maintain my family. I like to plan fun things and try to make the best of every situation. Liberal in ideology, but open to perspectives and experiences. I am not usually the one to start the party, but I will sure enjoy it when I arrive! I love to travel and meet new people, very adventurous!

PHILOSOPHY

Life is the accumulation of our experiences, and I am working steadily to make mine varied and worthwhile all the while!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I tell people about the concept and explain how awesome it would be to travel around the world this way...most people are amazed at how this community works!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had several surfers stay with my family and made new friends each time! I've roadtripped across America several times couchsurfing, and have stayed with hosts in France and Canada. I've made life-long friends and connections and am eternally grateful.

Interests

Like the outdoors and spending time with friends, networking to make my life happen (even with simple things like using freecycle, craigslist and garage saling!) Participating in my community through activism, civics and recreational events. Raising a rambunctious red-headed boy and all the joy THAT brings!

Music, Movies, and Books

I prefer movies that contribute some kind of perspective on the world that I may not have considered or fully understood. I love interesting documentaries and cool short films. I do enjoy the comedy, action and drama every now and then as well. Books: travel writing (of course :)), non-fiction mostly these days. Music: I don't have a specific genre, but I lean towards top 40 and enjoy folk and indie. Still like that old time rock n roll and a mix of everything else.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've discovered the most spectacular places in America, off the beaten path and learned to be flexible in my expectations to reap the most wonderful reward of spontaneous adventures!
My latest big adventure was 3 weeks in France, from Normadie to Nice :)
I've been skydiving, done the Polar Plunge, zip-lining, flown a plane and love Adventure Racing!
Sorry, couldn't give just one.

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmmm. this item needs more thought... Euchre anyone? Geocaching?
In seriousness though, I try desperately to share an openness with everyone I meet that encourages people to explore not only the world but even their own community with more adventure and compassion. Smile at everyone you meet. You never know what difference it will make in their life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A willingness to participate! I've taken hikes, gone rock climbing, shared meals and danced the night away with hosts. Typically I enjoy a meal on the town when a host has time and I'm happy to treat. Many meandering conversations and drinks between new friends have occurred. Whether for an hour or an afternoon, let's make the most of the day!
