About Me

This past November, I completed a 10 month volunteer commitment with AmeriCorps NCCC Atlantic Region where I gained a love for travel as well as environmental sustainability, the natural world, and helping others. I am pursuing a Bachelors in Conservation and Environmental Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and will be attending in the fall of 2016.

Having had my first dose of continuous travel and communal living this past year, I have gained a passion for people and learning about new cultures and ways of living. There is nothing more meaningful in travel than hearing stories from locals and learning about what their land has to offer. I am extremely passionate about nutrition and farming, and currently on a westward journey through various national parks, cities, and organic farms.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am a relatively young traveler in the sense that I have not done much travelling on my own and in the way I would like, and couchsurfing is one of the most ideal components of travel that I can think of. I want to be able to connect with locals and learn as much as I can about the places I go, and meet amazing people along the way.

Interests

Very passionate about yoga, and just recently started learning about Ayurveda. My favorite practice is Ashtanga but have a love for all. I love the natural world and outdoor sports - camping, hiking, biking, paddleboarding and kayaking are among my favorite activities. In the past year I have become very interested in organic farming and nutrition - because they are both so connected. Growing my own food as well as knowing how to prepare it in ways that it is most beneficial for optimum health. I love to cook and I am a vegetarian of 1 year now, and considering pursuing veganism.

Some of my favorite books include Michael Pollan's Omnivore's Dilemma, Start Something New by Blake MyCoskie, Organic Manifesto by Maria Rodale, Euphoria by Lilly King, Bukowski, & Kerouac.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This past year, I joined AmeriCorps NCCC, a 10 month team based volunteer program. I was assigned to the Atlantic Region of the country where I traveled through the entire Northeast of the US and volunteered with several organizations. Some of them being the National Parks Service at Acadia National Park, Habitat for Humanity in York, PA, an urban farming non-profit in Camden, NJ, a vegan animal sanctuary in Woodstock, NY, an estuarine research reserve in Maine, and reading and literacy program for elementary students in inner city Baltimore. I lived with a team of 8 people, ages 18-24 who became my family and grew so much as person and a leader.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am currently working on my Spanish, so I would love to learn more! I am also eager to learn as well as share what I know about nutrition, farming, sustainability, and yoga! I love to cook, and open to trying any new food, and love to learn how to make local cuisine.
