Hi! My name is Marlein, a 26-year-old Dutchie. End of 2018 I quit my office job to work and travel in New Zealand. Still going strong and absolutely loving every minute of it!

I try to combine travelling and working, and see where that takes me. While doing so I'd love to meet new people, get to know their stories, and have fun of course! And what better way to do so then through couchsurfing?

If you can't appreciate a bit of sarcasm, a fair deal of impulsiveness and a lot of bad puns, then you probably won't like me. I'm always up for drinks, good food, good conversations and games (computergames, boardgames, anything really). I also love hiking, nature, animals, motorcycling, cooking, philosophy, history, movies, music and art.

I have no couch to offer at the moment, but I'll return the favor to you and other travellers once I'm settled again;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I experienced that CS is a great medium to meet like minded people, which makes traveling so much more fun.

Plus I think the best way to get to know a country, is to get to know the people.

To name a few: Snatch, The Big Lebowski, Gladiator, Fight Club, Office Space, Forrest Gump, and everything made by Tarantino, Wes Anderson, Tim Burton and Miyazaki.

I also love British comedy (Monty Python!), can probably script all LOTR- and Harry Potter-movies and have watched way too much South Park in my life.

Any Disney movie will do too (I'll sing the songs for you in Dutch, if you like it or not)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hard to choose! Goes from spontaneously ending up in Paris after what was supposed to be a short afternoon motorcycle ride, to climbing active vulcanoes..

Though quitting my job to travel is probably the biggest one yet!

My educational background lies in political and social science. I can tell you all about that, the Netherlands and my travels. I'd love to learn more about the people and history of the places I visit.

I am widely interested and have a good memory for random facts, which tend to pop up at the most unexpected moments. Did you know that a duck has the same amount of cervical vertebrae as a giraffe?
