About Me

Hi there,
my name is Marlene, I live in Berlin, Germany and finished my Bachelor studies last October. I've decided to take a break from "normal" life and do things that are completely different. So I lived and worked in Nepal for 7 months, then I worked in an ice cream parlor in Berlin to enjoy the summer months and after that I joined a dental care project in Indonesia. Since beginning of October I am in New Zealand, using my work and holiday visa. I am an outdoor person who loves to trek, cycle and camp, if alone or with like minded people.
I don't need much to feel comfortable and happy, and I am a down-to-earth person. I usually get along well with all sorts of people :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have done couchsurfing before through friends and always had good experiences. I also attended some couchsurf meetings that had been great to meet people from all over the world. I havent used my profile in many years now, as I mostly tried to live in different places for several months and thus had my own accomodation (or stayed with friends). But now I would love to get back into couchsurfing since I always prefered to get in touch with locals than with backpackers (especially now, as it seems that all Germans hang out in New Zealand).
Anyway, there is no way for me to experience New Zealand without meeting and getting to know people who live here :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The (two) most memorable things that I have done in my life were two 20-day treks in the Himalayas, that made me completely forget where I come from and what my meaningless problems are

Teach, Learn, Share

Through my studies and my time abroad I was lucky to study Indonesian (three years) and Nepali (only 7 months so still beginner). I love languages and I am always interested to learn how different languages work. Furthermore I got really close to local Nepali and Indonesian life, getting to know their local traditions and culture. I love learning about the different ways of life of people around the globe.
I am always open to share my knowledge (language, culture, travels, or just cooking) and at the same time learn from others
