Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had my first couch-surfing experience in Tapachula, Mexico recently and it was great! I look forward to meeting more wonderful people this way!

Interests

Anything 'new' to me is interesting and thrilling; the 'old' stuff that makes my life engaging, is all about friends and family. I like seeing the world in different ways / seeing different worlds, and when I'm in one place, I do that through art, music, film, theater and literature, mostly -- going to exhibits and shows, just walking around, and following my nose.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy seeing-hearing-reading anything and everything that helps me understand, laugh, relax, or change my mind. Lately I've read "Bitter Fruit" about the 1954 coup in Guatemala, seen "Che-Part I," and been listening to lots of salsa as well as Beatles tunes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ok, so these aren't "new" or "unique"... but they will always be amaaaazing: I've climbed to the top of the Mt Blanc (cried with pain and exhilaration), hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon (countless shades of red), dived the Great Barrier Reef (an enchanted underwater forest), walked for a week along the Great Wall of China (a Tolkeinesque masterpiece snaking through the landscape), descended into the bowels of Pyramids of Egypt (what do those hieroglyphs say?), clambered around the temples of Angkor Wat (trees strangling the ruins) and the sculpted caves of Petra (even more shades of canyon red)... And on the human front, I keep meeting amazing people every place I go, people willing to share of themselves and their lives with a total stranger, opening up landscapes of the heart.

Teach, Learn, Share

What I'd like to practice (teach-learn-share) relates to being compassionate towards each other and connected to the Life Source within and outside ourselves. I'm happy to share whatever I can, however I am able, and value being open and honest.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belize, Cuba, Guatemala

Countries I’ve Lived In

Austria, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States
