About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to maintain my cover as a human being whilst exploring this planet. Date of pick-up from mothership is as of yet unknown.

ABOUT ME

I'm not one to stroke my own feathers, especially since I'm not a bird and all, so I'll just give a global description of who I am.

Currently I'm finishing up my study of Applied Communication Sciences. When I'm all done with that, I intend to start a Bachelor in History in Groningen.

I like traveling the world, especially because I get to meet so many different people. Most of the times, my views, goals and opinions change at least five times when I'm on vacation.
I'm easy-going, laugh easily and know lots of random, non-important historical events to tell during dinner :)

PHILOSOPHY

I think I'm alive to contribute and learn from the world. Crossing borders that only exist in our minds. I try to be as positive as I can be every day. I don't want to become a person who just lived a life by following the paths that other people made.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Cooking, cleaning, telling horribly lame jokes, but the least I can do is tell something interesting about my country, myself or random historical events

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My couchsurfing days started after I met a guy during a big thunderstorm on top of the Preikestølen in Norway. If that isn't a good start to a story, I don't know what is.

I met this guy whilst doing a five-hour hike up a mountain when it started pouring with rain, thunder and lightning right above us. This guy was dressed in nothing but a tshirt, a pair of shorts and sneakers and he looked like a drowned cat. Not the best way to prepare for a hike up a big mountain, I thought whilst cowering from the storm.

Even though I was already soaked through due to massive rainfall, 'waterproof' is hardly waterproof nowadays, I gave him my spare-poncho. We exchanged names by making eachother spell it out loud five times whilst the thunder was rumbling above our head. You might wonder why we didn't use our phones but seeing how iPhones don't particularly like water, we had to remember the old-fashioned way.
We added eachother on Facebook and my first real international friend was made! I visited him in Oslo and my couchsurfing-life began :)

Interests

My interests vary widely. I like learning about history and human behaviour. I'm a big fan of cooking programs, especially anything sweet. I have a bookcase which is nearly falling out of its hinges and I have this habbit of constantly buying travelguides to places I still want to see.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite books all have some sort of suspense-like, history detective theme. I also like fantasy books, as it expands the way I think about my own world :)
My favourite films are also action packed, suspenseful and with a lot of fantastic details. I really like Marvel and DC films!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I walked on glaciers in Norway and climbed out of crevices. I flew an airplane for the first time in 2013 and it was such a magical experience. I know from seasoned travelers that it gets old really soon but I intend to enjoy every flight to the fullest :)

Teach, Learn, Share

As a part time job, I taught high school-English, history, Dutch and German. My goal was to make myself obsolete, meaning that my students would no longer need me.
I like learning about other cultures. I think it makes me a better person when I hear about different perspectives, ideas, history etc.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, cooking tips, dinner, Dutch words and pronunciation of the g-sound. I always bring stroopwafels and hagelslag on my trips so that's a big plus as well!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Netherlands
