About Me

My name is Marni, I just moved to Jakarta last year as me and my husband got jobs here and we left our hometown Medan, North Sumatera and moved our ass to the capital city where dreams are made of. LOL. I previously hosted some surfers when I was still in Medan and I loved it. I enjoy meeting new people and finding ways to help them have an uplifting experience while they are in Medan and Lake Toba, the place where I originally come from and also the most beautiful lake in Indonesia and the biggest lake in South East Asia..

I travelled with them, did hitchiking along the way, attended traditional wedding party, canoeing, making mango jams, learning how to cook Russian dishes, go to see how to make luwak coffee, trying vegetarian life, read good books, discussing Budhism, voluntary English class for kids in my village, go to church, ride buffaloes on the ricefields, visiting coffee conservation, drinking the best organic coffee, watching Quentin Tarantino's movies, learn how to live without money, try to speak like a mafia with my Sicilian friend (He is a real mafia), learning spanish and yeahh, im not good at it at all, dancing traditional dance and explore paradise spots where you can enjoy the view of Lake Toba where not so many tourists know (who knows better than the local people?)

It was such a priceless memories that will always remain in my heart. It was a really good time when an ordinary 20 yo girl from a remote village who never travel and go anywhere out of her region did such things? How precious that can be? I was blessed and Im so thankful for those experiences and for all surfers who come across my path and made the person who I am today.

So here I am now living my new marriage life in the new city and working as a media relation for a coffee company. Its not easy to live in this hectic and also the third rank for the most polluted city in the earth. I used to live in paradise where everything seems so peaceful and lovely. But I want bigger things in life and Im striving to become great in my job. I love Jakarta. I love life. I love people. I love this city and to try conquer the hectic life here by taking a breath and think about all the good things in your life.

We currently living in a simple rented house near to our office in East Jakarta.. We dont live in a big cozy house but we do try to make our place as comfort as possible. My husband cant speak English but he is such a really nice person (thats why I married Him).. We both works Monday to Friday 8 to 5 and only have weekends off..

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Some of the greatest people I've met are from CouchSurfing, I learned, I shared and I gained many experiences with tons of unforgetable moments i have shared with them. I also love to meet people from different cultures, different background and I always love listening to their travel stories.

Some people do send emails which sound more like demands or reservations than an attempt to meet make new friends while travelling. But for me, i would love to host people who has the same couchsurfing philosophy to make new friends and sharing stories.
