About Me

Hi! I'm a pretty relaxed, adventurous German girl who's addicted to travelling. I like to challenge myself and grow through my travels. I also prefer to travel slow and in unconventional ways and really get to know a country and its culture, the language, people and different landscapes. When I feel really adventurous I start hitchhiking - have done lots of it in Europe!

Long-distance walking is one of my favourite ways of travelling. Also very interested in sustainable ways of living and travelling, as I like to be conscious of my impact on earth.

I love to learn languages and always try to pick up new words when I'm travelling.

I love to take photos all the time. I'm usually the one you'll get all your photos from if we travel / hang out together.

A few random facts about me:
- hopelessly clumsy when it comes to cooking
- like to laugh about myself whenever I can
- don't drink, don't smoke, I eat vegetarian most of the time
- rather stay in at night with good friends than going out partying
- very "ungerman" in some ways (usually unorganised, without a plan, admittely also a bit unpunctual)
- generally more of a quiet person but always love to meet new people

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined Couchsurfing many years ago in 2009 when I first started travelling and wanted to meet other like-minded people. I found my first hitchhiking partner on CS, followed by countless CS meetups and couchsurfs! Always love to meet and connect with people from all over the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love folk, indie and acoustic music. Combined with pop and rock. Mumford & Sons, The Killers, Brandon Flowers, First Aid Kit, Passenger, Eddie Vedder, Beirut, Half Moon Run, Boy & Bear and many more. The coolest music is probably live music though, whether it's one of my favourite artists or spontaneous jam sessions I get to witness on the road.

One of my favourite books is "The Way of the Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman, could read it over and over again. Also most books by Paulo Coelho. Generally, I prefer non-fiction books, books that teach me something and inspire me.

I rarely watch TV these days. I really like educating documentaries and inspiring / travel-related videos that I usually find online. TED talks are good. Tutorials on youtube. American sitcoms I used to watch 10,15 years ago. British comedy videos that I'm strangely drawn to.

Some of my favourite movies are: Forrest Gump, Into The Wild, Cast Away, The Truman Show, American History X, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Da Vinci Code, Groundhog Day etc...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

♦ Walking the Camino de Santiago four times (an 800km pilgrimage across the north of Spain).
I've walked different routes of it and have to admit that I'm kind of addicted to it and will most likely walk it many more times in the future!

♦ Hitchhiking long distances throughout Europe.
Hitchhiking really gets me out of my comfort zone and gives me a great feeling of adventure and adrenaline.
I've been doing it since 2010 and have had nothing but great experiences.
My most memorable hitchhiking moments are: hitching in a car with 8 people and being stopped by the police; a wonderful generous Portuguese family that invited me back to their house and cooked and cared for me... and one time I spent 16 hours in a car with my French/Moroccan driver while we didn't even speak the same language.

♦ Spending a week in the Sahara desert with a group of lovely people I had never met before,
One night I was sitting on top of the biggest dune and watched the sunset, then I turned around and saw the full moon rising on the other side of the horizon. It was the most gigantic moon I have ever seen and so so beautiful and surreal to watch!
My friend Tom Thumb organizes a week in the Sahara every year, go and check out the Road Junky Retreat!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am eager to learn new things! Whether it's languages, something about your culture or a special skill you want to teach me.
I can teach you how to juggle or any of the languages I speak. I also know a lot about (long-distance) hiking and cheap travelling.. but there's always more to learn!
