My name is Sword and I was raised in New jersey. I now live with my girlfriend and her dog in the Catskill mountains of NY. We are currently trying to strengthen the community and create a home for ourselves. I am charismatic and have a lot of energy. I really love helping people, and would be happy to help anyone with anything that lets us stay with them. I am learning guitar, and I am also a history nerd. I've traveled all over Europe and lived in Japan for the year of 2007.

My girlfriend's name is Marilla, but some people call her Mars for short. She grew up in the Catskill mountains in NY and then, several years ago, at the age of 17, decided to leave and travel all over the U.S. in a van and by hitch hiking. She did this off and on for 4 years and survived by selling her art and telling jokes, and on behalf of the kindness of others. She is now ready and looking forward to traveling abroad. Currently she is a professional cleaner and owns and runs a community thrift store (everything is free), and artist studio.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My girlfriend, Marilla, and I are traveling through South Korea and Japan late march through the end of April, and we were hoping some people would be gracious enough to give us a place to stay or show us around. We also have a spare bedroom in our home which we decided we could offer up to couchsurfers when friends aren't crashing there.

Interests

I spend a lot of time reading and practicing guitar. I read a lot of historical books. Apart from that I work frequently, or am just trying to make a difference in the community. My girlfriend and I are both a bit of movie buffs, so we like to snuggle up to a good film.

Marilla is very creative and is frequently illustrating or sewing. She loves animals, and long walks with her dog. She also loves fashion and costume parties. She is a very hard worker, she works 3 jobs.

Music, Movies, and Books

This is a hard decision, off of the top of my head I can think of Y tu Mama Tambien, Lock Stock, and Twins. Marilla loves David Lynch, Harmony Korine, and Stanley Kubrick. We both like sci-fi novels, she reads a lot of comics and manga, and I read a lot of history books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed Fuji San, and not from station five, but rather from the very bottom. The total walk was from 6pm to 12pm the next day. I walked like 30K from 6pm to 2am got to station 5 with my roommate Chris, and at the time, he was too tired to continue. I was almost out of food and water and I didn't a flash light. Luckily, I met some kids and climbed up with them. My tired legs walked down the opposite side of the mountain by accident, so when O got to the bottom I had to hitchhike to the train station and I didn't know very much Japanese.

Marilla has a ton of amazing stories, you'll just have to ask her yourself.

We can help with English, and would love to learn just about anything. Marilla is great at teaching art and some survival skills.

We are both happy to be of assistance in any way needed in exchange for putting us up. We can help clean, cook, chop wood, farm, you name it and we'll help.
