About Me

Traveling and living abroad has certainly defined who I am. And I LOVE it.

In my senior year in High School, when everybody was talking about careers and promising futures, I kept saying that my goal was to live in a different city every year and explore as much of the world as possible. Well, *spoiler alert 18-year-old Marta*, I have actually managed to do so and I couldn't be happier. For the last 7 years in my life I've lived in a different city every year (or school year actually, because I'm a teacher), and I must say that I'm kind of addicted to it now.

My latest adventures have been in Canada (where I worked and travelled for a year with a working holiday visa) and Italy, where I taught English and tried to learn Italian for one school year (while trying to eat as many gelatos, pizza and pasta as physically possible)

Since September 2017 I've been living in the United States as a Spanish exchange teacher. I've been teaching part-time in a Middle School in Virginia and my flexible schedule has allowed me to explore the States quite a bit. New Orleans, Austin and Chicago have been some of my favourite destinations. In June I'll be travelling around the West Coast of the US, which will be my last trip before going back to Barcelona for the summer. Can't wait to see what the West has to offer!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

One thing I've learnt from my travels, and that is that people are a central part of the experience. I love being able to hear about what locals love and dislike about the area, what their lives are like or what they think of the world. And let's be honest, being told the best spots for food and coffee in the area is just priceless!

Since I've been in the US, I've had the chance to meet really cool people that have welcomed me into their homes and showed me around with great energy and love for sharing. They have made my experience a thousand times better and I couldn't be more grateful. I can't wait to welcome them and show them around wherever my next home might be.

Music, Movies, and Books

I recently discovered "Shotgun" by George Ezra and it makes a great road trip song!

The last movie I've watched in the movie theatre is Deadpool 2, and even though I'm not a big fan of super heroes, I actually loved it.

Currently reading "A Man Called Ove" by Fredrik Backman. My new favourite book is a collection of poems by Janne Robinson called "This Is For the Women Who Don't Give a Fuck".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bungee jumping was pretty awesome... But mananging a High School classroom full of teenagers might be my greatest (and most life-threatening) achievement!

Teach, Learn, Share

My job is being a teacher but my ultimate goal is to be a life-long learner. I love hearing about life stories, seeing skilled people do what they love, and learning new things.

I've been wanting to learn how to play the guitar for a while (haven't succeeded yet!) and I definitely love listening to people play it. Or any instrument really, I think people who can make music are awesome.

I took a few months of Swing Dancing lessons and I wanna learn and dance more.

Oh, and I'm trying to learn Italian and French. I still have a long way to go though.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I LOVE food. That is just a fact. So I'm always happy to learn about new dishes or ways of cooking and to share some time in the kitchen (and eating, of course). And I'm always up for a good conversation.
