About Me

Hi there! My name is Martha. After I graduated from college in 2019, I embarked on a massive solo road trip to visit all 50 national parks in the lower 48 states (of the US). I stayed with about 50 Couchsurfing hosts along the way, developing a deep love for the community.

After my trip, I planned to host, but I’m now in a housing situation that doesn’t allow me to host Couchsurfers. ☹️

So while I can’t offer you a place to stay at the moment, I would love to help you if you have questions about the area! Just shoot me a message.

I’m currently a wilderness ranger in Zion and love all things outdoors: day hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, and canyoneering (my personal favorite).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My past experiences with Couchsurfing made my travels so much more rich and fulfilling than if I hadn’t become involved in the community. Even though I can’t host right now, I want to pass along the kindness I received any way I can.

Interests

Besides the outdoors, I also love indie music, podcasts, film photography, exploring new cities, and making coffee with my espresso machine!

Music, Movies, and Books

Very into indie music. I can give some recommendations if you're looking to expand your music selection!

Favorite movies include Dumb & Dumber and My Cousin Vinny. I really don’t watch a lot of movies/tv though.

Recently getting back into reading. Most recent books are From Here to Eternity and Where the Crawdads Sing. Would love recommendations!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As I mentioned, I traveled the US for 9 months solo. Without a doubt, this has been one of the coolest things I’ve ever done.

On my trip, I did a few neat things such as:
- Volunteered with bat researchers at Great Basin National Park
- Hiked rim to rim to rim at the Grand Canyon
- Attended 7 concerts

Since then, I’ve also been on a 5-month trip to travel New Zealand with my partner. :) It taught me so much about myself and gave me a new perspective on outdoor recreation and management as well as general political issues the US faces.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can give tips or answer questions about visiting most of the US national parks! I can also give you some more in-depth information about Zion, the St. George area, or North Cascades (all places I’ve lived/am living in).

I can also share tips for solo travel if it’s something you’re considering!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to buy my hosts a meal or a coffee and get to know them! I am also more than happy to share any of the knowledge I have about long-term travel, solo travel, national parks, or hiking.

Countries I’ve Visited

England, Ireland, New Zealand, Wales
