About Me

Hi I'm Marta :-) Originally from Italy, i live between Lisbon and Paris, the two cities I love the most in the world :-)
After a very harsh period I discovered the benefits of meditation and yoga, that I try to put into practice in my everyday life, together with surf, another great passion I recently discovered. I'm following a vegan diet and aiming to a zero waste lifestyle.

For me couchsurfing is a way of building bridges and being in contact with people i wouldn't have met in other ways. Some couchsurfers became dear friends and I'll never thank enough the universe for the amazing souls who crossed my path.

Just one important thing. Respect is FUNDAMENTAL to me. If you're racist, misogynous, homophobe, or whatever, please DO NOT CONTACT ME.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing thanks to my friend Mario. He introduced me in this world, showing me how cool is travelling and staying with locals and meeting people from all over the world. He hosted a lot of people even from unknown countries (at least, for me!), making me feel more and more curious! I guess it gives the opportunity to create a human web around the world and that connection which is the basis for peace and respect. And i feel like I want to be part of this big, world family :-)

Interests

I consider myself an extremely curious person, always ready to get involved in new things, trying to widen my interests as well.

As you can read, I'm (over)obsessed with art. I love art history, and visiting museums and galleries makes me feel happy like a little girl eating sweets for the first time. I like also sharing my knowledge about it to people who are interested :)

An other extremely important interest is music. I used to play viola. Even if I gave up with it, listening to music, going to concerts (live music is always a good thing!) and discovering new genres and groups is one of the best thing to do to me!

I have been vegetarian for almost ten years, so I got into veggie cooking! I don't like cooking for myself, but i'm trying my best when i have guests :-)

Music, Movies, and Books

Very difficult to talk about music as I'm listening so many different genres. My heart belongs almost entirely to punk (Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Misfits, Suicidal Tendencies, Gorilla Biscuits, Descendents,...) and Italian hardcore (Negazione, Kafka, Bellicosi, Downright,..). I have a strong passion for local Italian and French songwriters, such as Fabrizio de Andre, Luigi Tenco, Georges Brassens,..Moreover, I like metal in its subgenre such as heavy, thrash, progressive, grindcore,... (Black Sabbath, Municipal Waste, Fu Manchu, Queens of the Stone Age, Repulsion, Meshuggah,...) but don't like epic metal. I also listen to experimental, ambient music (Explosions in the sky,..), progressive rock (Pink Floyd, Jethro Trull, King Krimson,..) and jazz (Louis Armstrong, Glen Miller, Duke Ellington,..). I have also an authentic passion for icelandic music: Bjork, Sigur Ros, Mùm,... they have something that make my soul melt.

Concerning movies I'd say I love old movies in general, especially from Italy (Vittorio De Sica, Federico Fellini, Roberto Rossellini,...), France (Godard, Truffaut, Rivette,...), Germany (Fritz Lang) and Russia (Eizenstejn, Vertov, Pudovkin,...). I generally don't like comedies, apart from Paolo Villaggio (the famous Fantozzi) and Carlo Verdone. Speaking about contemporary, still alive directors I like: Lars Von Trier, Roman Polanski, Paolo Sorrentino, Terrence Malick, Alejandro Inarritu,... I have always disliked Tim Burton and no one can convince me of the opposite (even if a lot of people tried!). I'm also a nerd and i love Star Wars (not the ones made by Disney&co) and Star Trek. Live long and prosper!:D

I read a lot of books! I am a bookworm seeking for new authors and genres (and some advice as well!) The only genre I'm not into is fantasy, so no Harry Potter and similar. I love philosophical books (I can go from Plato to Foucault, from Kant to Heidegger) and the classics. I have a strong passion for Russian literature especially for Pushkin, Gogol and Dostoevskij. I also like books on art and artists. Sometimes i read poetry too. Recently i have been interested in African authors such as Wole Soyinka, Ngughi Wa Thiongo and Abdillaf Abdalla.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would be happy to share the culture of my country with other people (and I expect the same in return!)

Concerning what I'd like to learn...I am here, teach me and i will be happy to widen my knowledge about anything :D

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share nights out, some laughs, tours around the city, veggie food, some drinks (red wine, spritz and beer are my top three!), travels accounts, suggestions about books movies or music, some nice story of my cs experience, my friendship and, in a pure Italian style, a cup of coffee!
