My name is Martha, I'm 21 and originally from Milan, Italy. My parents moved to New Zealand when I was 1 yrs/o for a healthier and more 'easy-going' lifestyle. We have always spoken Italian at home so that me and my two sisters keep the language. At the end of 2017 I graduated at AUT University (in Auckland, New Zealand) with a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation, majoring in Exercise Science. I am extremely passionate about all things food and health, sustainable and organic living, and I give my all to volunteer wherever possible. For my last year of university in 2017, I was accepted as an intern with Paralympics NZ. As a fresh graduate, I now work full time at Ceres Organics, a New Zealand based Organic food company as the Sales Executive.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It’s easy to question and judge cultures that are different from mine. Traveling or living somewhere completely different gives me/us a new perspective that’s different from just hearing or reading about it. The act of being somewhere new allows me to fully immerse myself and appreciate the new place, from the people, the language, the clothing, and everything in between. Sure, I like being a tourist but taking the time to come out of my shell and interact with the local culture and the local people is the way i'd like to experience and appreciate travelling fully. This can’t be taught, only experienced. This is why i'm on couchsurfing.
