ABOUT ME
We live at the edge of town--in easy walking distance to "downtown," the capital, and the national forest. It is very beautiful.
Martha is originally from St. Louis and sometimes misses being in a larger city and especially the ethnic and racial diversity of a bigger town.
Because Helena is small and can be a little insular, we are excited about the possibility of meeting travelers from around the world with different perspectives.
What else: Geoff is a graphic designer who works from home; Martha works at the state historical society. Our daughter (age 18) will be home for the summer after serving in AmeriCorps for a year in Boston. Our son is out of the house having his own adventures.
Martha, who has filled in this profile, has an earnest streak--but the whole family is pretty irreverent.
PHILOSOPHY
Be kind--be fair--have fun--help one another--look to learn new things--engage in the world around you--work together to make a difference--laugh.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We have had fun hosting--and have tried surfing once.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We have hosted a few surfers now and have had nothing but good experiences. Before we joined couchsurfing, we hosted more informally--for example, bringing travelers (particularly cyclists biking the Continental Divide) home for dinner and really enjoyed it. These cyclists are how we learned about couch surfing.
Note: When I switched internet providers I had to change my email address--but I forgot to change it here. I was wondering why folks stopped asking to stay! I've fixed that now....

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Many of the most amazing experiences I've ever had have came from accidental encounters--for example, meeting a civil engineer in Rome and spending the day with him, learning architectural basics (like the keystone principle) and about ancient engineering feats.
Teach, Learn, Share
We enjoy talking with people who are different from us--and who are open minded and interested in sharing what they have learned and who can laugh at the world.
