About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Traveling, seeing, hearing

ABOUT ME

Open minded, spontaneous, curious. I try to stay open to the possibilities of life rather than staying stuck in a routine.

PHILOSOPHY

Don't want to get stuck in a routine; strive to keep life open enough to be spontaneous or make a change of plans on short notice. The world's so big--there's always more to learn about everything you love, as well as things to discover that you don't even know exist.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Love traveling and meeting new people, so simply hope to continue hosting and staying with other surfers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosted a German friend on her first nights in the U.S. when she came to study for a year at the University of Georgia. She met and befriended our entire extended family, then we went and spent a Christmas with her family in Germany, and she met our German relatives. A merging of families through Couch Surfing.

Interests

I love music, traveling, talking/listening, camping, biking, long walks/hiking, reading, cooking and eating/drinking.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love African music--old field recordings from all over the continent and especially Malian guitar music; also Asian music that sounds very "out" to Western ears, and folk music from around the world--but grew up on rock and punk and love all good music.
I read constantly (okay, not while driving): recent hits include "Waging Heavy Peace" by Neil Young, "More Than They Could Chew" by Rob Roberge, "African Music: A People's Art" by Francis Bebey, "My Uncle Napoleon" by Iraj Pezeshkzad, "Reading My Father" by Alexandra Styron, "When Movies Mattered" by Dave Kehr, "Going Away" by Clancy Sigal, Hunter Thompson's collected letters, "Shadow of the Silk Road" by Colin Thubron, "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" by Michael Chabon. Reading is such a great way to escape reality while lying on your own couch.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (a goal since I was in the second grade).

Teach, Learn, Share

Love sharing music I've found, travel stories, and maybe a recipe or two; also, receiving tips on music, books, food, and travel.
