About Me

Travelling definitely has changed my life. I spent a wonderful year backpacking in Australia and met a lot amazing people and discovered beautiful places. Now it's finally time to continue the journey and explore the world a bit more.

I'm always curious and interested in broadening my mind. If there is something new to learn and try, I'm in! A passionate geoacher who loves to getr others interested in this fantastic hobby. When travelling I love to spend time outside in the nature going for long hikes or camping in the wilderness. But I also like visiting cities and getting lost in winding alleys, having a drink in a bar, meeting locals and learning about their culture.
I often do hitchhiking because it's a fun and exciting way of getting in contact with many interesting people.

PHILOSOPHY

Who does not laugh, does not live.

...............................................................................

If you don't know it, then try it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined Couchsurfing about nine years ago but actually never used it until my journey to Australia in 2014. From then on I often stayed with a lot of hosts who were strangers at first but became some of my best friends. They all made my travels so much more interesting and helped me getting (in and) out of trouble far away from home.
Couchsurfing is the best opportunity to find awesome people around the world and feel like home even if you are thousands of miles away.
After returning to Germany I started hosting myself and showing people the beauty of my hometown Leipzig. Some of them even decided to move to Leipzig ... coincidence? ;-)

Interests

Travelling (of course), spending time outdoors and discovering new places and fascinating people, hunting for small Tupperware boxes in the woods (also known as geocaching ;-) ), singing under the shower, dancing when nobody watches me, eating, eating, eating (even if I don't look so), learning languages, watching movies and discussing them, hanging around with friends and a bottle of beer, talking about new topics from aardvark to zymurgy, using movie quotes in conversations, making offers you can't refuse
so all in all: having a good time and enjoying the life

  • cooking
  • beer

  • outdoor activities

  • geocaching

Music, Movies, and Books

More movies than books. But if a movie catches me, I'm going to read the book. Like "Into the Wild". Absolutely amazing, changed my view on some things.
What else? Nolan's Batman trilogy, Memento, Prestige, Black Swan, Seven, Matrix, Dead Man Walking, Requiem for a Dream, City of God, Inception, Planet of the Apes, L.A. Confidential, Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs, Princess Mononoke, Nebraska, Sherlock (BBC Series), Rounders, Back to the Future, Alien, Annie Hall, Dodgeball, The Girl Next Door, Oldboy and many many more ...
I always like a good mix of genres. I'm a huge fan of Avicii (unfortunately never seen him live) and Bob Marley (a great man with a great vision). Apart from that I listen to a lot of House and Trance like Armind van Buuren, Tiesto, ATB, Afrojack but also don't mind good rock music, soul and even German 'Schlager'. :-D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Taking my backpack and leaving towards Australia where I spent the best year of my life.
- snorkelling with whale sharks in the Ningaloo Reef
- having a car accident at Wolfe Creek Crater
- learning to ride a horse and drafting 500 cattle
- being an adoptive father for a 3 months old calf and 5 newborn lambs and goats
- exploring the fascinating landscape of Tasmania on a one month camping trip
- camping in the Australian outback under millions of stars

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to share my German culture with you. If you plan to come to Leipzig or Germany in general you should check out these very well made videos about German culture, history, etc.

Backpacker Survival Guide: Leipzig: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gppJslzce0

Give me ten minutes and I will teach you juggling. Or if you like I could teach you some German, Russian, Italian or Latin.
I can't cook very well, so this might be your task. ^^ But if you play an instrument, can swear in Finnish, solve a Rubik's Cube or just know a good joke, then let me know.

What I Can Share with Hosts

It's basically myself and a lot of stories to tell. I love to meet new people and having conversations with about everything. My cooking are rather basic but I'm happy to learn and improve myself.
But if you like a fun loving German who likes to share his culture and learn about yours we will get along very well.
