About Me

We are two Londoners (from north and south of the river respectively) living and learning in Guangxi.

We previously lived in Taipei for three years before leaving in June 2017. We hosted people at our home in Taipei for around a year during that time. We arrived in Liuzhou, Guangxi at the start of August to continue studying Chinese.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We find that those who are seeing the city for the first time add to the enthusiasm we feel living here. So we want to share some of our experiences with people who are discovering Liuzhou and hope that they can help us explore.

Interests

We're both really enjoying learning Chinese and, although there's a long way to go, we're endlessly enthusiastic about it. I love writing Chinese characters and can happily spend hours practising.

I'm into music, both making and listening, and have recently discovered an interest in comics (which began as a means of practising reading Chinese). Beccy likes arts and crafts, and is great at crocheting.

I'm a huge football fan (the thing I miss most since moving away from London is going to watch Chelsea every other weekend) and, at weekends, I can normally be found in the pub watching the game. Beccy, however, can't stand it (she'll change her mind one day, I'm sure).

We like hiking and would love the chance to visit the countryside around Guangxi - it's some of the most beautiful in the world. We also both love trying different types of food and China is definitely the right place for that.

Oh, and KTV!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Jungle, hip-hop, garage, jazz, drum&bass, trip hop, classical, soul, funk, reggae, dub, ragga, big band. If it's not about guitars, then I'll give it a go.

As a means of practicing my Chinese reading I've started to get into comics. I've recently read some 金田一 mysteries, and I'm enjoying 詐欺獵人 and 東京喰種 at the moment. I also got completely addicted to the 亞人 series. If you know of anything similar, please recommend it to me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Learnt Chinese.

Teach, Learn, Share

We both taught English in Taiwan so we're happy to help any guests improve their English skills.

We're also interested in hiking and, time allowing, we'd love the chance to get out of the city and explore further with our guests. We're always up for KTV and I'd go shrimp fishing every weekend given the opportunity.

We always welcome more opportunities to speak Chinese so, if any native speakers want to share their language with us, that would be a great bonus.
