About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To gather good experiences from as many places as possible
ABOUT ME
I am a curious guy who want to see as much of the world as possible. I love to meet new people and experience their culture and their gastronomy. I love to make food, beer and whatever I can myself, but never the same thing twice if I can avoid it - the engineering part of me always want to optimise :)
I am now an engineer/data scientist in environmental biotechnology, about to start my PhD in DNA sequencing. I also work part time in a biotech company.
PHILOSOPHY
Enjoy life while you can, embrace your surroundings.
Keep the Earth alive, respect it and it will give you something back in return.
Get lost - the best random experiences usually happen this way
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I try to make people aware of this, and encourage them to try out couchsurfing and hosting. I believe a lot of Danes are a bit too private (myself included sometimes), and we could all benefit from some CS experiences!
So far I have only hosted two people, the town I live in is pretty dead :( but maybe by going out to other hosts I can make friends who could visit some day. I like being a host, share what I have with others - everything is better when shared, it gives that extra bit of magic
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I had my first couchsurfing experience in Munich last year, and I was welcomed with open arms, and immediately had a new friendship and a home - this was an amazing experience! I had a good room and everything I needed by a host in France, who took me out to see the beautiful nature of her region.
I was hitchhiking in a small French village and picked up by a girl who invited me home to have a lovely day with her and her boyfriend. It was so random and so cool.
Going out to party in Hamburg with a bunch of German guys who introduced me to everyone, it was a truly great party.
Arriving in Brisbane, Australia where I had to spend half a year, being picked up by the nicest older guy, who hosted me for 10 days until I found a place to stay. Kept coming back to visit him and all the other couchsurfers coming by. I used couchsurfing to make new friends in Brisbane, and I'm always happy to meet new people, even if just for a short while
Interests
I love wine, food, beer and all specialties. I enjoy the food culture of the places I travel. I like to produce my own food and drinks as much as possible - I brew beer, cider and have numerous other things planned out, such as making my own cheese and wine (I know it will be hard to get a good result, but I want to know the craftsmanship involved :)
I am an amateur photographer, a hobby I wish I could spend more time (and money on). So far it's just for fun, although I have helped my friend, who is a singer, to make a couple of music videos, one of which was adopted by the local football club. Now I'm consulting for his newly started video ad company, joining in on the filming when I can.
I am quite passionate about the environment (without being freaky), so of course I hope I can change it for the better. This is also why I'm interested in the whole organic/biodynamic movement, although I think it's not always the answer. I try to use everything I buy and I get a little sad if I have throw out anything.
I am trying to learn mountain biking, so far I am still testing my courage on the downhill trails.
I would like to learn Spanish and Mandarin, so if you could teach me some I'd be happy.
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Django Unchained (and other Tarantinos), The Grand Budapest Hotel (and Wes in general), Memento, Inception (okay, all Nolan!), Schindler's List, Fight Club. I like comedies, especially the silly British stuff. I also like movies that make you think, documentaries and so on. Music-wise, pretty much everything, although classic rock, some jazz and classic music, some alternative and electro (usually the French for some reason) are my favorites. These days I'm listening a lot to Australian electronic music.
I don't get around to read a lot of books, I am usually trying to learn something new either in the kitchen or online
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Trekking in the Norwegian fjords made me appreciate the beauty of this world. Also I learned that I need to train my balance! Nearly falling down a mountain, just grabbing a branch to hold myself up made me wish I hadn't gone into the mountains - a couple of hours later we found wild strawberries and that changed my mind again of course :)
Driving along the Croatian riviera was absolutely stunning!
Meeting people on various trips and enjoying the hospitality and interesting stories they had.
Tasmania!
Local experiences in the Danish forests, which are limited nowadays, or the beaches where you feel one with nature made me develop my environmental care.
Couchsurfing on an interrail trip around Europe made me meet amazing people, and I'd definitely want to do it some more!
Teach, Learn, Share
I would like to learn everything! The problem is that I know I can't. So I think some of the old handwork which has diminished now because of the industries would be good to learn. I like good, fresh food without any bullshit, so in my ideal world I would like to be able to make everything I need, and maybe have some neighbors who produce the rest :)
Enthusiastic people fascinate me, I like to listen to them and learn as much as possible!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I usually offer things I have found on my travels that I want to try myself. It's usually beer, wine and cheese. I can also offer to cook something.
