About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn to appreciate what I've been given cuz I still am not good at it...

ABOUT ME

(I've heard I am a) friendly, honest, crazy, music addict open toward new ideas and concepts, willing to share ideas and experiences with people from all over the planet.

PHILOSOPHY

Keep your mind open to fresh and stimulating ideas. Look around and try and find the best way to understand the world.

Don't judge others by their appearance. Instead, judge them by the contents of their pockets :D (I'm dead serious. Not talking about money though..)

" - It's a human life. You don't think God sees?
- God is a luxury I can't afford."

and one of my favorites:

"To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering one must not love. But then one suffers from not loving. Therefore, to love is to suffer; not to love is to suffer; to suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy, then, is to suffer, but suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be unhappy, one must love or love to suffer or suffer from too much happiness. I hope you're getting this down?"

I love to love and I love the word love.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host people and people host me (that's the idea right?)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only had great experiences (so far)!

Interests

Music:
Classical, (experimental) Jazz but there's too much (and too many) to list!
Frank Zappa, Pat Metheny, John Zorn (!), The Beatles (obviously...), Nirvana, Al Di Meola, Mahavishnu Orchestra, John Frusciante (solo albums), Achille-Claude Debussy, Josh Klinghoffer (Dot Hacker), Steve Vai, Jamie Cullum, Björk, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, REM, Pearl Jam, The Pixies, Norah Jones, Bonobo, RATM and a lot more... Truth be told, I'll listen to pretty much anything that rivets my attention plus any piece that uses the double harmonic scale is most definitely in my book!. I also play (electric) guitar.

Literature: Scientific stuff (theoretical physics, astronomy, state-of-the-art technology, philosophy and medicine) I occasionally read fiction. The Lord of the Ring series, 'On the road' (J. Kerouac), 'The Insanity Defense' and 'Mere Anarchy' (by Woody Allen) have recently gotten on top of my all-time best reading list. I frequently write fiction and poetry, too.

Film: Woody Allen, Tarantino and lots of others... Spanish independent cinema, BBC Science series, documentaries and a lot, a lot more!

Linguistics: I am a linguist by profession (and by nature!) and I've always been interested in the phenomena of multilingualism and polyglotism. I love learning languages just as much as I love analyzing them. I love to play with language and I think I'm pretty good at coining new words and phrases. I also like to learn about the etymology of a word/expression and know how it got to be the way it is now. (Sounds crazy? Not to me!) I've finally bitten the bullet and started learning Swedish, Norwegian and Icelandic...

Sports:
!Swimming! (love it but can't swim very well)

!CHESS! (is that even a sport?) - Think I'm pretty good at it ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

"Love and Death", "Manhattan" and "Take the money and run" are on top of my 'Woody Allen list' but I'm too lazy to write'em all out here ;)
Literature: Russian literature, Astronomy, Medicine, Science.
Top writers: J. D. Salinger, Woody Allen, Kurt Vonnegut (Slaughterhouse five), Michio Kaku, Julian Tuwim, Witkacy, e.e. cummings and many many others
