About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Travel, meet incredible people and experience everything that our world has to offer.
ABOUT ME
I'm a Canadian guy who wants to explore the many different cultures and places that this world has to offer while meeting amazing people along the way.
My family is from the Czech Republic but my parents immigrated to Canada and I was born and raised in Ottawa.
Currently I'm in Lausanne, Switzerland doing my PhD in Material Science and Engineering at EPFL. Even though I'm usually super busy, I try and travel as much as I can on weekends when I have time (and money).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Right now I live in 20 square meter studio with my girlfriend so I cannot really host couchsurfers just yet. I'm still getting to know this new world of couchsurfing and hope to surf a few more times this summer!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Had my first couchsurfing experience in Cologne Germany and I have to say it was one of the best experiences in a new city I have ever had! I loved having a local host that could offer great advice on things to do and places to see.
Living at home we tend to fall into our own routine. Routines are boring. By getting out and staying with another person you get to look through a window into their life and their routines. This is something so simple yet for some reason it fascinates me!
Interests
On the active/outdoorsy side of things I love travelling, hiking, rockclimbing, biking, volleyball, sailing and generally anything that involves being outside!
I love messing around with electronics and building stuff. Things like Arduino and Raspberry Pi are things I have had some experience with but can't seem to find time to really dive into. The whole idea of hacker spaces are also fascinating for me and something I'd like to explore some more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In the summer of 2012 I was working in particle physics at CERN as a summer student from Canada. I arrived on July 1st and three days later on July 4th, 2012 the announcement was made by CERN of the discovery of a "Higgs-like" particle (Higgs boson). This was a spectacular achievement to say the least and being in the middle of all the excitement a few days after arriving was an amazing experience. Working at CERN and travelling in Switzerland, the following two months were the best summer of my life!...and now I'm back here a year later for my Master's!
